Were currently selling our caravan and have agreed a price. The buyer has a distance to come and has offered to pay a holding deposit and will pay the balance on collection. They are wanting me to email a copy of the CRIs certificate. I was going to blank out the serial number. Is there anything else you would suggest/ advise as precautionary on this?

Why would they need a copy of the certificate?
Doesn't sound right to me.

If you give them the number off the van they they can call Cris and check the details.

I wouldn't email the certificate.

Thanks for that. I was a little unsure spew hich was why I was going to blank the majority of details out, and then it seemed pointless. So do I provide the VIN or the actual 8 digit reference number on the top left of the document?
I've never sold a caravan before, so all this is new to me!

When they register the van with cris, you get contacted to confirm the sale a couple of weeks later.

Give them the vin number and your surname only. They can pay the fee to check if it's stolen

Don't confirm with cris till you have the cash!

However being the cautious person I am, I'd ask for a bank transfer so that you have a paper trail

Yes I've said I'm a bit wary of having cash. We were going to go to bank with them to pay money directly in. Bank transfer good but could they do on a Saturday and may take some hours to process through? They've a far way to come

Internet banking can take up to 2 hours. Offer them a brew ect. IMHO if they are good peeps they would appreciate the paper trail ect. When we bought ours they sellers were more then happy to hang around with us. Gave us an opportunity to go through all the bits and pieces for the van. Home made cookies and brews in deck chairs xx

We picked up our new caravan yesterday and as it was a private sale and quite a hefty sun of money we decided a bankers draft would be the best method. It cost us £15 but it was worth it in my opinion as there's is a money trail and it is as good as cash to the seller without having to count out a load of notes or wait for a transfer to Come through.

We have discussed that, daft as it sounds and I do understand the seciruty of these things, but I was worried about a fraudulent one! I worked for a bank for 18 years too, and never came across one but I'm jus worried our thousands of ponds worth of caravan being driven away and us been left with a duff bankers draft lol

I've never heard of a duff one either. They are kept locked away in a safe and they need 2 signatures from bank staff so I don't see it happening personally. When we sold out last caravan we were given nearly £2000 in cash and it was a pain in the backside counting it out and checking the notes with a note pen.
