Last year on thr way to get the ferry to France, we were travelling at 60 in our motorhome and a caravan flew past us, the caravan then started swaying dramatically from side to side very close to flipping over but still didn't slow down, my then 5 year old son turned to me and said "daddy why is that caravan going so fast if it goes out of control like that"
Having previously been caravanners I said to him, because clearly they are silly fools who don't have the sense of a 5 year old.
He then said to me, "wait til we get to the ferry I will tell them I am 5 and have more sense"
Says it all, but made us chuckle.

Yep oxter, I drive a firms 12 plate VW Golf 1.6 TDi BlueMotion 5 Door Hatch, even at those speeds towing, I still get 48mpg minimum.
Will be adding a RoofBox to the car this year, so will se if that makes much difference.
Happy days!
Brilliant MPG. I struggle to get 30mpg with my outfit but 2.2 diesel.
Have had 51.3 solo from Saumur to Dunkerque but that was exceptional. Normally around 45 on long run at frugal speeds.
The box will take a few mpg off I'd imagine but benefit of more unnecessary items with you

You should see what some people cram into their caravans completely ignoring load limits etc. Cars are weapons, caravans are weapons - a car and a caravan together is a nuclear explosion waiting to happen should some muppet get behind the wheel and completely ignore the MAX speed limit given for a bloody good reason. I don't wish to suggest that all Range Rover drivers with twin axled vans are the majority but out of around 9 or 10 accidents i've seen involving caravans, half of those have been with Range Rover - just because you have a bigger car and van doesn't mean you can have a bigger/higher speed limit.
Peace be with you all!
