hi all
im thinking of buying a caravan to do up and sell on.ive been offered a bailey ranger 470/4. its been under cover last 2 years. has no windows or kitchen. trouble is i carnt find the history off it nor does the seller no. he bought it off ebay to do up but has an ilness. all i can find is numbers and letters stamped into the a frame bar is there any one on here who could help please
I think those numbers refer to the spec of the Alko chassis and the weight range it can be used for. I don't think those numbers will allow you to identify that particular caravan.
Personally I think that the cost of replacing all the windows and the kitchen on a unit that has been open for several years would be too high to enable you to make a profit. At the end of the project you still won't know the details of the unit to enable you to advertise and sell it at a reasonable price. If it's been standing it'll probably need new tyres and a service and damp check so unless it's really cheap I think I'd walk away from this one.

As far as I can remember on our Ranger there is a plate by the door with the weights and tyre pressure but no serial number etc. The only identifying numbers I know of are the CRIS marking on all the windows.
Have a look at the Bailey site here which suggests that the VIN may be stamped on the chassis but I've never noticed that on ours:
https://www.bailey-parts.co.uk/Default.aspx
Click on the bit at the top that says "How to find your VIN/production number" and you should get a picture showing where to look.
If you get the VIN you can presumably work out the CRIS number and check the van's history but if all the identity marks are missing it sounds suspicious to me.
The numbers you post up are just chassis numbers & will
tell you nothing. If the windows have gone then there
will be no Cris numbers & if you can't find that you
probably won't insure it. The 'van could well be an
insurance write off anyway.
It won't be worth buying to do up & sell on because
anybody buying caravan of that age will want Cris
registration docs which it don't look you will have so I
would leave it.
Unless it is VERY cheap I'd walk away, as it will cost you a lot of money to replace the windows.
I've just replaced the small kitchen window on my Bailey and that was £100 collected from Blaenavon Caravan Breakers.
The 10th digit of the CRIS number gives the date code so if it's a 2003 model it should be a 3. If it is A that would make it 2010. What style of graphics does it have? Is it the early style that went up to 2005, or is it the later type? Are there any other clues as to the age like date stamp on the tyres (which should have been changed) or does it have alloy wheels like the GT60? Can you date it from the upholstery colours or is that missing as well?

it has alloy wheels no kitchen has 1 double bed cousion like a light pink colour with green curtains
As far as I know only the GT60 had alloy wheels as standard but somebody could have fitted them later. Does it look like a 2003 Ranger or does it look like the later model? Have a look on the web and see if you can identify the upholstery colours.
I suspect that CRiS should be able to give some info just off the numbers supplied. My guess is that it is a "stolen recovered".
I would certainly be asking the seller some very careful questions!!
Look on the chassis frame on the offside( nearest centre of road) there should be a frame number ( cris) stamped on the frame near where the corner steady is located along with a Bailey symbol.
