Trying to find someone to fit an solar panel to the roof of my caravan, have all thats needed, but having left numerous messages with different people, only one has got back to me!! Why do they not answer? Even just to say sorry cannot do it etc?
The one that has got back to me wants £250 for the job...is this a good price?
Does anyone know of anyone close to Walsall/West Midlands who would be willing to fit it?
Just annoyed that no one even acknowledges my calls or emails.
Rant over.

Probably the reason why they haven't answered your call is because it's a bank holiday. Wait till Wednesday at least as the ones you have tried may just get back to you with a quote.

I have noticed that a lot of caravan engineers must have a good living, as it can be really difficult to get them to come out and do work on a caravan,
Why advertise??
Don't know about the £250,seems like it's a lot per hour unless it takes him 3 days!

You supplying your own parts could be part of the problem. Most tradesmen prefer to use a brand of goods that they are familiar with and know are good to fit. They might also want to make a markup on goods supplied. You may well have bought the best bits in the world, but an engineer might fear the worst that it could be a cheap product with poor fixings that they could end up being responsible for in 12 months.

Trade would only be responsible for faulty goods or sorting warranty claims on faulty goods if the trade supplied AND fitted.

Fitting only they would never be responsible for faulty goods, faulty fitting yes, but not goods.

So I think the fact they make a mark up is more accurate.

If you were closer id be happy to take on but your a bit too far away. Plus youd be waiting for at least 2 weeks for an appointment. Most of us are really busy at the min, no excuse for not returning calls etc though. Thats just not good for your business.

I have ordered a kit and intend to do it myself! Having read several forums its pretty much straight forward, the drilling holes in the roof is frightening me to death but will ensure its done properly.

I see what you're saying but if the tradesman installs your equipment to the best of his ability, but 6 months down the line there is a problem, the fitter will be the first port of call. Time wasted etc

Hi Batman. You say you have everything needed to do the job so why not ask a local electrician to give you a price if he does household solar panels I am sure he could cope with a caravan installation. Several of the electricians in my area have branched out into solar installations and most elecies are very conversant with waterproof installations ie P65 regs so give it a try best of luck "ROBIN"
