Hi folks,

Been away for ages due to health issues and not being able to drive. Now got the ok to drive(and tow) looking to get a wee van again. Does anyone have any suggestions for good places to buy used caravans around central Scotland?

Jusr seen the thread "Crappy old caravans" One of them would suit me fine.

I put the search in for up to 50 miles from Glasgow but you can extend that. Take a damp meter for any caravan you look at and be careful what you buy.

Thanks Oxter, been a while but still remember the old rules. Any idea where to get a damp meter and is it easy to use?

Possibly B&Q. or Screwfix?

Google it. Plenty on eBay and Amazon.

Push button, touch panels with the probes and if it ticks fast or screams then walk away.

Friends got a really good used van (frankly, it's immaculate) from a place near Stirling recently - will try and get contact details for you.

Try Knowepark (Livingston) or Duncans (Wishaw). I was over at Knowpark on Sunday & they have some older vans in. Might be worth a look. The shops at both are good for bits & bobs

If you don't want to spend a lot of money then I think private sales is your best bet.IMO

Dealers will always..always want to make a profit.
A lot of folks trading in for a newer model will generally get more selling privately than what the dealer offers in trade in price unless they are making a killing on the price of the new van.

There are always little gems being sold privately for not a lot of money.
Generally dry and well looked after and can come with all you need to get started.
Obviously still need checked out for damp etc as you would do anyway as there are also some nightmare buys out there.
