After reading the Castleton thread,

I'd like to know the best way to the Buxton (Grin Low) CC site from the north?

The only part I have a little concern about is, after bearing slight left off the A628 onto the B6105....

A few miles down that road according to a good old atlas, there's a steep downhill incline just outside Glossop.

How bad is that, or should I continue further along the A628 and then left onto the A57 and pick up the route again from there?

Hi GCMS2012, According to caravan club directions best route from Northumberland is A6 through Buxton onto A53 – Local Directions

I stayed on this site a number of years ago, I came in from the north west side of the country, I have a small 16ft six foot six wide van, I struggled on the steep narrow roads, definitely not suitable for any thing bigger than a small trailer tent, Best from north west or south west take the A53 from Leek to Buxton. From south East of country into Buxton and onto A53 heading South.

            Caravan club Local directions
Turn left off A53 (Buxton - Leek) within 1.5 miles at the signpost to Grin Low, Harpur Hill. In 300 yards turn left into the site road (signposted Grin Low). The site entrance is in 0.25 mile. Please follow these recommended directions for the final approach carefully, due to alternative routes being unsuitable for towing. The route from Congleton on A54 is narrow and steep.
I hope this helps.

If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.

avoid the B6105 to Glossop from the A628 it has a hairpin bend half way along. It is a long struggle outside Glossop on the A624. Look at going further down the M1 - possibly junct.31

By the looks of it, it looks better if I continue on the A628 all the way up to the A57 (Hollingworth?) turning

If I was heading to Buxton, looking at the map, that's the way I would go, A628-A57.

once you leave Glossop on the A624 even with the Shogun you will be in 2nd or 3rd gear, as there is a long haul up to get to Hayfield and the same on the return journey. Go down the M1 and take the Buxton/ Matlock/ Bakewell junction - I think its 31 but not certain without looking at the map. I travelled to Buxton last Saturday ( without the van ) that way as I patrol Woodhead as a Ranger and just love to get my fix of Dark Peak Moorland and I wouldn't want to tow that way!!

With Northumberland o nthe same side of the Country as Brid in East Yorkshire hope this helps as its the route I take....as one poster has said head for the MI - probably via the AI from your way. Turn off at the Chesterfield turn off Jcn 30 and take the A 619 to Chesterfield and keep on that A619 through to Buxton passing the Chatsworth Club Site and head to Ashford on the Water. The road ends and you turn right on to the A6

As you enter Buxton there is Morrisons Supermarket on your right. Turn left at that roundabout signed to the Buxton Country park. Keep straight on at the Lights at Fiveways Junction (count them!!) and keep on that road till you get to the end at a T junction and lights  and turn left towards Leek A53. Up the hill and about 200 yds after the garage turn sharp left onto the road into Grinlow. This is Grinlow Road and signed to Harpur Hill.

We were there in April and I hope you enjoy the place as much as we do

Phil

Ok, staying away from Glossop etc.

So, after more fishing around on Google maps, and I think we'll go all the way to junction 29, it looks / feels better that junction 30.

Onto the A617 -> A619 and so on...

Looks like the long way round, but them roads look way easier.

Thanks to Dave and Phil.
