I prefer using plastic ramps because they have more advantages than a single leveller. They are lightweight, don't rust, require no maintenance, easy to store and are also handy in times where if you are on sloping ground as a pair of ramps can be useful for packing blocks between the steadies and the ground. The two advantages with a single leveller under the tyre are you don't need a corresponding rear chock in the case of handbrake failure and you can get the caravan precisely level. Ramps can be a bit more tricky but that's down to experience. However, a single leveller can be somewhat difficult if you have any back problems or disability so it's down to personal choice really which is best for your needs.
I have a purple line hydraulic caravan jack it comes with brackets you bolt onto the chassis put the jack on a small square piece of ply so it does sink in the ground all so carry small yellow ramp
I have a very old family heirloom that is a cupped plate that you drive the van wheel onto that you then wind up until the van is level! Very heavy and well made but worthwile if I know the site is on a slope, otherwise bits of wood usually do the trick.
I have 1 leveling ramp and it's all I need. When I use it I only need to lift one side to get it level so I don't know why the salesman tried to sell me a pair of ramps.
I use a Pyramid chockmaster LIKE THIS
- pull the caravan up the ramp and put the chock behind the wheel.
No longer available but there are clones available in black CHOCKMASTER
If needed I will be using a aluminium milenco leveller that I picked 2nd hand but like new for £30 tomorrow when we arrive at higher hendra park in cornwall
All of these devices rely on raising one wheel to level the van. The guy at tregarton park in Cornwall that does the siting of customer vans (brilliant service) digs out a clod of turf to lower one wheel. How sensible is that.
We have ramps, when we go to Chatsworth on the hill with the gun dog lot we are on quite a slope. We have to dig the upper hill side in right to the motor mover and ramp up the lower hill side wheel right to the top notch of the ramp......... where theres a will theres a way haha
