I have a Bailey Pegasus 624 twin wheeled caravan,that has noseweight 117kgs.i removed everything from the van to get it down to this weight,The caravan now stands as it came from Bailey with noseweight of 117kgs. No Gas bottles,no water tanks no jack. It states in the hand book it is up to 100kgs, I have my dought's if a Pegasus 624 has ever been under 100kgs Are there any members of this form that have the same problem? This noseweight for a caravan of 1650kgs can not be in compliant with the NCC payload rules. If you have a 624 please check the nose weight and let me know together we may be able to do something about it.

A caravan of this size needs at least 100kg noseweight for stable tow, a few extra kg won't make much difference. Weighing nose is not an exact science, weight can vary on uneven ground etc, is your gauge accurate? The spring type often arn't. Best towed with a 4x4 vehicle that has towbar load limit of well over 100kg anyway. The only way to get noseweight down is to load at rear, as long as its around the 100kg mark its ok but not much lower than that.

I do not have a 4 x4 i have new E class CDI Sport saloon that can tow 2200kgs or the hand book says so. My weight gauge is new this week £48. so should be ok. have tried a pals and its the same. I think and am told that caravans are around about 75 to 85kgs noseweight.for a caravan of 1650kgs loaded. If you travel with the gas bottles even 6kgs in place it makes the noseweight miles to heavy.But many thanks for your help michell8

I wholly agree with the comments here but regarding an accurate noseweight gauge I only ever use the Milenco noseweight gauge because it conforms to a European standard whereas the others don't. However, I have to load my caravan slightly to the rear of the axle to lower the noseweight as the default noseweight is 84kgs. but my car is only allowed to accept 75kgs. downward pressure on the the towball and suspension. It can be achieved but you have to use common sense and not just chuck everything to the back as that can cause a pendulum effect (tail wagging the dog) which is s recipe for disaster. As said above, if you are not towing with a 4x4 with this size unit you may well be struggling to get the noseweight down.

Does the van have the optional front chest of drawers? They are pretty heavy.If so they can be repositioned but you end up with the fold out table across the van!

Our last Pegasus 534 did, but with a Sorento there was a higher noseweight allownce.

We have a Unicorn now, this has the gas bottle box in the centre, makes me wonder if Bailey realised the Peggys were a bit nose heavy/

The Unicorn feels more stable on the back of our KX2 Sorento.Pegasus was ok but the Unicorn feels really solid.

Yes it has a chest which will have to go.I think 664Dave may well have the answer, ie gas bottles, I have had twin wheel vans for 30years and never come a cross this problem before. Many thanks to all. I should have stuck with my old Buccaneer
