I would stick with a good quality solid one.

pneumatic ones can be a pain when you have to pump the Tyre up before you can move the van !

I have a MM and a pneumatic jockey wheel. I put a tube in as soon as I bought it and never had any problems. I check the pressure before each trip as you would do with car and caravan anyway.

Have tried them all..wide plastic wheel, solid rubber wheel and the pneumatic is the best in my experience.

One tip I picked up on this site is make sure the wheel is facing the direction you are going if using a MM, if its side on and doesn't turn it will pop off the rim.
Common sense really.

As above have tried various types of jockey wheel and now use the original that came with the van, Pneumatic ones prone to coming off the rim and don't go under the A Frame correctly on the current van.

I think a lot depends on the type of terrain you pitch on and where the van is stored.
In my case I have a stone chipped drive (2" depth of chips) and also use grass pitches quite often.

I would agree the solid type JW will last forever and be ok on good surfaces but not so on soft or deep stone chipped surface if using a MM. It will usually dig in and get stuck and put strain on the MM.

If I use the original solid rubber JW or wide plastic wheel I am unable to get my van up the steep inclined chipped drive with 3" clearance each side as it will just dig in but with the pneumatic JW it glides up without issue.

This is only my experience for the benefit of the OP to judge all conditions when using the a MM.

I use one of these and use a motor mover. Tried the pneumatic tyres, and they either went flat all the time, or popped. And hard to wind up out of the way for ground clearance.

The one above can be bought cheaper from a caravan shop if you have one near.

I must be really lucky with my Alko pneumatic Jockey wheels, this is my second one over the years.
I think the metal rim and putting a tube in does make a difference and of course realising it is a very small pneumatic wheel and treating it as such helps.

I haven't experienced it popping off the rim myself but have seen it happen on site and it can be avoided.

I don't have a problem with it losing pressure which is the case since fitting an inner tube to the tyre.
I also find the thick tread (replacement) gives a good grip in my own situation with a very steep drive and doesn't slide and dig in as the others have done.

I cannot criticise the solid or wide plastic but like most things they can't do everything, as I mentioned in my case for the benefit of the OP.

I certainly purchased my second one (Alko) due to the recommendations on this site a while back but again its not for everyone but it has worked for me.

I have in the past tried a pneumatic tyre but could not keep a good seal on the rim like a car tyre, then a tube, then a self sealant. I finally reverted to the solid wheel,

I fitted phospur bronze bushes in the jockey wheel smeared with a marine grease + ensuring my van tyres were the correct PSI. I have not had any problems moving either by hand or mover on all types of terrain including pea pebble. I found if the clearence between pin and jockey wheel is too big its more difficult to push. The greater  the wear the greater the resistance as the wheel has to move over to take up the slack before rotating and this on going at each revolution.

The sooner they invent the hovercraft caravan the better for one and all just think a van floating behind your tow car, hover on to pitchplug in EhU fetch water fix waste of to the pub Cheers??
