HI Tinysec, thanks for your message on 27th Sept.
It's difficult to know what to say that's useful on this topic. There are now 6 Retreats on my site - 5 of which have water ingress ranging from bad to disastrous.
One, in particular, went back to supplying dealer last winter and had the whole back-end removed and refitted after having a new floor up to the galley area! When it was returned to the site by the dealer at the start of summer season in March this year, it immediately started taking in water. The dealer has now fitted 5 new locker doors all of which have leaked and is now proposing to completely seal the rear locker, which neither he or the owner believe for a minute, will stop the problem.
This dealer said all or part, of the problem, is caused by the structure flexing when towed to and from winter storage. Who were the incompetents who designed these things?? On one occasion this July, the owner videoed the water running in through the locks!
If ever the phrase "Unfit for purpose" meant anything, it is with regard to these caravans.What would happen if a new car leaked like this?
Although this friend and fellow sufferer has had the van from new, so has a warranty, he is not getting the matter resolved and Baileys are now suggesting that, despite it, they can not be expected to help much further. He is beside himself with anger.
Another warranted van on the site goes in for its turn to the same dealer who has failed to remedy the other van and who said, basically, he cant fix it!!
My service guy has intimated that there are many others with the same problem. 99% of Retreat leaks are through the rear locker door.
I would like to hear from anyone in this Forum, who has had help or advice from anyone including Trading Standards and I would also like to see if Watchdog or Fake Britain etc, would take up the cause, so anyone reading this, please get in touch.
I have no doubt that manufacturers and dealers are supremely confident that, if there is a problem that is not easily and cheaply remedied, they can drag their feet and wear down the customers' will to pursue them. We need a class action or similar to get any kind of meaningful reparation.
