Just got back from taking our new Rally Air "Pro" out for its first spin and thought it might be useful to give anyone who may be interested an idea of how it performed. We were lucky to get one of these a few weeks ago as stock seems to be taking forever to come through.

I have to say that overall, the awning is fantastic. The heavier weight "Pro" material is very strong, and because of this, it can be a bit "heavy" if you are trying to run it up the awning channel on your own (plus the air poles are built into the fabric, adding to the weight). Definitely a bit of a workout compared to my older porch awning which was more like lightweight tent material. But, once you have got it up the awning channel, my goodness, it is a breeze! The awning pumped up in a couple of minutes and I didn't have to top it up at all. It was still rock solid after 6 days of varying hot and cold conditions. I did not experience any leaks or condensation during my stay.

The awning has built in curtains, the side ones roll up and into toggle type fasteners. The front curtains roll downwards and are stored in a pocket at the bottom of the window. The veranda option is a huge bonus, as you are able to open just the tops of the front doors to allow lots of air through. The two side doors have insect mesh if required.

The awning skirt is excellent as it comes with adjustable straps that peg into the ground and guy lines to pull the awning skirt nice and tight.

I was concerned that this awning might not be tall enough for my caravan, as this has been a problem in the past (my van is at the top of the awning's height range), but I needn't have worried. The height was perfect with a little room in the pegging ladders to allow for any slopes.

I had the awning up in about 15 minutes, pegged out and ready to go. I imagine that next time will be a lot quicker now I know what to do.

Deflation was extremely quick and what little air is left inside the poles escapes easily as you roll the awning up. It also fitted back into the bag with room to spare.

I am delighted with the awning and would highly recommend it, but I would say that it is worth considering the weight if you plan to put this up alone, particularly one of the larger models (mine is the smallest - the 260).

Hope that helps anyone thinking about purchasing one.

Thanks for the review - very useful.

I am considering the Kampa Rally Air or the Vango Sanna Air and can't make my mind up at the moment.

Is there much pegging out to be done as I have arthritic hips and find this to be a pain (lol) on any awning.

It is about the same as any other porch awning. Four main corner pegs. 3 guy line pegs and then a few intermediate pegging points along the sides.

Hi. JenniferB.
Have you had any rain whilst you were camping as we have the same awning and we have had leaking issues. Please read my other post on the very leaky Kampa Pro 520 and see the response from both dealer and Kampa. Just something to think about. Cheers. Alex

Hi Alex,
No, we had no leaks at all. I was expecting the awning to leak the first time it rained as (apparently) awning material "seals" after it is rained on for the first time and they tell you to expect a degree of "leaking" until it does seal - but nothing at all. It was rainy for the first few days of last week and nothing inside the awning was wet. My last awning also had lots of condensation issues on the ceiling first thing in the morning, but this one seems to be fine.

Alex - I am guessing yours isn't an air awning as I can't find a 520 on the website, only a 390? Perhaps your awning is a different material to the Air Pro 260? Ours has very heavy weight material.

Hi. No ours is the same one that you have I just commented on the other 520 thread as they were on about leaks. We had an heavy downpour last week at cambridge the first night it was pooling on the top and seeping in through the joints so we pumped it up a bit more and that improved matters and then the heavens opened again and the next day the Two corners were flooded as it had made its way around the tubes down to the floor. It did have a dry day to dry out in between and that didn't fix the problem Look in my gallery and you will see our awning.Cheers.Alex

Oops! Yes, sorry - just realised it wasn't you that started that thread. Can honestly say that we didn't have any problems with pooling, but then again, we haven't had a really heavy downpour yet so perhaps we might experience this in time.

we used our Rally Pro for the first time last w/end (July 2014)and have to say it's not as easy as people may think is.
Firstly ours is the heavier material, so fitting into the caravan awning rail was a task. you have to manoeuvre the whole rather heavy awning upwards and across into the awning rail. in windy conditions this is a major task. Pumping up the 'air poles' is not that easy.
Then you find if the ground is uneven, the poles seem to bend, and in windy conditions this is more apparent.
Once up, pegging down is no easier than a normal awning, but rear upright poles, and storm straps are a must to combat poor sealing, and bending air poles, in windy conditions. Unfortunately these are accessories that have to be purchased. All those bright yellow straps needed to stabilise your fancy awning are well seen for miles around.
Lastly, heavy condensation, with water dripping onto our awning seats was frustrating. Those small top corner vents seem to have no effect whatever. Water reservoirs formed on to square section roof panel, easily removed by pushing upwards from the caravan step, and watch water cascade down the window panels.
Very disappointed obviously, and seriously considering part-ex this almost new awning for a conventional awning. Anyone interested? but you have been warned.

Oh dear Kerbus.

In the end we cancelled our order for a rally pro air 390 and bought the rally ace instead. Will come out of its bag on Friday so we shall see....

I bought this awning as I needed to be able to put up on my own. Yes it is heavier than my previous awning but after a putting it up a few times I don't have any issues with it. Stood up to terrible weather and high winds without a problem. I wonder if they are made in different factories and some are better than others. The poles do flex in high winds but so did my Kampa Rally. I kept my storm straps etc from my old awning so didn't need any of the extra's.

I definitely think the heavier air awning is a 2 'person' task to fit onto the awning rail. On the good side though, dismantling it is made easy by the shear weight of the awning coming downwards of the rail, and no steel poles to worry about. This was the main reason why I purchased the awning in the first place.
Never will I be able to fold away my air awning as well as It came boxed. The large stowage bag accepted my attempted folded awning fairly easily, but the now larger bag needed both of us to lift into the boot, with not much space left.
The plastic 2 way hand pump & pipe I didn't even try to fit into the same bag.
Good idea, no poles etc, but maybe the airbags(poles) could have been fitted after the awning had been fitted to the caravan awning rail, I don't know?

We have just bought the Kampa Rally Pro 260. We considered the air version but decided that we could not justify spending the extra £260 just in order to save a few minutes bother with the poles. Having read about the weight of the air model when threading into the awning rail, I am now hoping our choice was the right one. We will find out in June when we go down to Cornwall. Our caravan is an Xplore 402 and there is only just enough room along the awning rail to get the 260 to fit. I am hoping my measurements are accurate.

We had the Air Ace version but we were able to sell it as it was far too heavy for us. Our Ventura Marlin awning weighs nearly 6 kg less.
We also had issues with water pooling on the roof, but that could have been us not erecting it correctly and also bad condensation even on hard standing with all the vents open.
The final straw was on using a curtain for the first time one of the clips was broken and on second use another curtain was already fraying at the bottom.
I doubt if we will ever buy Kampa items again as the repair time to replace the curtains was nearly 6 months althouhg I have to admit that curtains are not really essential.
