my following experience and comments may be of interest.
Over the last 3 seasons I have done 10500 miles mainly on the continent towing an abbey 420 with an Audi allroad. After reading posts on nose weight I thought I should check mine! Disconcerted to find it was 136 kgs.
I have never had any issues and always tows perfectly.
However, the audi had self levelling suspension.

Now, I suppose the worst eventuality with this situation is you could overload the cars suspension and damage it or break or bend the towbar. however Never had any issues.I will now try to get to the recommended n/w which is 100 kgs. but I am not bothered about being 10 kgs over and certainly not going to get paranoid.

it would be interesting to find out the exact relationship between the tow ball loading and the cars max rear axle loading..

i would guess its more to do with the axle loading than tow bracket strength..

fully load the rear of the car with a full complement of back seat passengers plus luggage in the boot..

get a max axles loading for that and then add on a caravans nose weight.. the two together must not exceed the cars max rear axle weight..

it also figures to me that not enough is left over for the tow bar weight.. 75kg isnt much for a largish van and moving stuff to the rear of the van to get the nose weight down isnt good from a stability point of view..

they dont seem to make cars to tow caravans properly and i can see why..
