OK so OH and I attempted to put up a new to us Nr Awning at weekend. The usual few harsh words were muttered and the odd metal pole fell on OH head (oops). Once erect and standing back to admire our teamwork (*use word loosely as OH eventually stopped 'having a go' and listen to instruction)
Any hows, we got the basic shape right but could not for love nor money get the tension to the front so that the front panels were flat. There somehow seems to be to much material (kind of that baggy knee thing on trouser when you've sat too long IYKWIM). What did we do wrong? or is there a trick that I just don't know.
You should be able to extend the front legs until the bottom of the awning is lifted clear of the ground and the front panel hangs straight. The mudflaps should lie on the ground and tuck inside the awning.
Have you extended the legs as far as they go and it still doesn't hang straight?
Invest in one thats mid price ( a pole tensioner ) not the cheapest. You will be suprised how much give there is on all the poles and yes it fits all poles as far as i am aware.
thanks Kawasakiversys I've found the awning companion tensioner and reviews are good so popped that in the basket.
Isacacamper - it was straight, although the martial was bunching above the front panels, but there just didn't seem to be anything left in the height to extend / pull down (cue hand on head scratching moment)
It does however give me an opportunity to book another weekend away to try again :). OH will not be pleased, he currently refers to the awning as 'your dam awning'.

Was the ground sloping up from the caravan? - slopes and uneven ground can play havoc with awning erection.
Awning manufacturers tend to photograph their products on grass so flat that it would be the envy of a bowling club
(and always on a perfect summer day)
LOL yeah at weekend the ground sloped away from the van which could account for it.
Its really hard to describe the material bunching thing. both sides were taught and flush, bottom front flush and taught. it was front about half a foot from the roof line. It just looked like 3 baggy trouser knees!!!!one above each door and 1 central just above where the door zips start.
note to self, more practice, flat ground, sunshine, use tension tool, and most importantly don't swing metal bar into OH head!!!
Doesn't sound like sloping ground - particularly if it was falling away from the van, as that would help to raise the front leg extensions.
Is it cotton canvas? - if so, thoroughly soak the front and allow it to dry without being under tension. Cotton canvas can shrink an awful lot - sometimes to the point where you have to wet it again, really stretch it into place over the frame, and then allow it to dry under tension - when it will remain stretched, but still taut
Better still, can you remove the front panels and do the above, without affecting the rest of the awning?
------------- I glanced in the mirror, and it was love at first sight...

Thanks for that tip. It's cotton canvas so might give it a go next time we are away.
have you got the awning new ? / we have nr awning you say its baggy has it a small pole from the centre pole down from the knuckle one ? (as you said its got no height left) .
Hi mrs p. there is no height left in the canvas to extent the central pole higher. I think I've not done a good job describing it :(. May take a picture when we are away next and repost
