Hi,

I put the pump in the aquaroll, switch the pump on, a lot of gurgling occurs, the red light goes on and the voltmeter drops to 10 volts. Then I turn on a cold tap and no sounds, the meter drops to 9 (the bottom) and the red light flashes.

I've connected the pump to my car battery and it runs.

Any ideas?

worn out van battery it may be just flat.. pump drawing to much current.. bad battery connection.. a few possibilities..

the voltage drop to 10 volts is way wrong..

Thanks trog, I'm gonna try another pump, check the connection under the bed, check the fuse although if it makes a noise I guess there is power. I've misplaced my multimeter so I'll try one of them as well. Ta!

Nothing to do with the pump, all to do with your battery; it's knackered from those readings.

put a volt meter directly on the battery terminals.. if it reads 12.5 volts or close the battery has plenty of charge in it.. lets say its not flat anyway..

if you see a significant voltage drop under a relatively small(pump)load you can assume the battery is knackered..

its a quick test that cuts out all the other possible options.. best to start at the beginning first.. he he

Hi, try connecting 12s plug to car ,switch selector switch in caravan car then try pump.

OK, thank you for all your suggestions. I started using my brain and discovered the second fuse box. (Thanks for mentioning that in handbook!). The battery fuse was blown, (hence the symptoms were pointing to a bad battery) Duh! So changed it and battery is OK now only one problem. When I turn the water pump on, the pump fuse blows. This is good (not as good as being fixed but we're getting somewhere!). The toilet flush is on the same circuit and doesn't blow the fuse, so it must be the aqua roll to the fuse box section. If I disconnect the water pump from the outside of the van, the fuse does not blow. Is this because
A. There is no circuit and therefore no short, or
B. The short is in the removable pump part?

Duff pump.
You only have a pair of wires and the pump when connected to the outlet. Not likely to be wiring but there's the slimmest possibility you've disturbed a wire in the inlet fitting while trying to sort and you can open the connector to check and remake connections if necessary.
Pump probably worn though and drawing too much current.

When you connected pump to your car battery, you probably didn't have a fuse in circuit and ran for a short burst only (I assume) so appeared to be ok, but failure at connection to van would indicate pump.

i have a baily senitor    and cannot fill on board tank    got new battery and new pump   all seam to be working but not taking water into tank   i think im missing something simple       help !

Right! G7ACU.. dead on! I rigged up an in line fuse and tested my pump.. Kapow! The fuse blew as I connected the battery. Then a friend lent me a spare pump and it works fine. Thank you so much to all of you.

I had to adjust the pressure switch so that it switched off but that's OK. The pump kicks in every 20 minutes or so when the pressure drops and I have water drips coming out of the water heater vent (i think thats what it is) on the outside of the caravan, so more investigation! At the moment I just turn the pump off at the breaker panel but at least we now have water. I'm letting my wife enjoy it before I start fiddling again!

It shouldnt kick in every 20 mins....it should only work when a tap is opened. I suspect the drip may be the heater drain plug leaking or not tightened properly, and the loss of pressure from there is why the pump kicks in every so often??

Good stuff GreyStone, at least you're getting somewhere.
As mentioned in above post, the pump should be pretty quiet once system primed and the small leak is the likely cause of the pump running occasionally (although I suspect you already know this).
I can't quite picture the location of the drip; do you mean the drain point from the heater? More detail and/or photo might be helpful.

Sorry to resurrect a zombie thread, but I forgot to close it. I tested the pump with an inline fuse direct from battery and the fuse blew. So the pump was dud. I bought a new one. Thanks to all who gave advice, it was appreciated.
