Am I asking to much for our 1998 Abi Award Transtar with loads of extras. We are asking for £1800 o n o but we have had people view it but they have offered silly money are we being too greedy?

I would say that was a fair price but it's hard to put a price on it without seeing it really as some advertise as being in good condition and it's anything but. I have viewed a few private touring caravans in the past whereby each time the the seller said it was in good condition only to find various defects in each sale. One had several dinks in the side of the caravan and a broken rear light cluster. Another had a crack in the tyre wall and rear end damage which it had not been serviced like they said it had. Another, the kitchen area was covered in congealed grease from past cooking which also smelt fusty plus hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner for ages.
So basically it's down to the buyer as to how fussy they are but personally I would rather walk away rather than knock the seller down but some people are just trying to reap more than a fair bargain and it's not just caravans either but if it truly is in good condition then I would just wait till the right buyer comes along.

It's all about condition really. If it's good it doesn't sound out of order to me.

I think any decent van, in good, dry condition is worth at least £1500 regardless of age .

Have you tried advertising it on Preloved? I've just sold my caravan and the guy that bought it says the guys he works with are all looking for vans to live in and save on b&b. I don't know what they do but are not travellers. Might be worth a go as they're not after top of the range.

i have been looking at a lot cheaper vans lately.. people have a price they want to pay.. £6oo-ish £1000-ish £1500-ish..

the price is the governor more than the condition and age of the van and the locality or closeness to the buyer..

one conclusion i have come to is that caravans are not selling well.. a lot are advertised and dont seem to sell..

the OPs 1800 whilst not being overly high dosnt fit the normal price bracket.. 1000 to 1500-ish buyers are looking and hoping to knock it down.. they are looking because its an attractive van and worth the money ask.. catch twenty two.. he he

but i still have seen a lot vans that simply have not sold.. the market dosnt seem a good one for a seller..

also including lot of gear with a van may help it sell but it wont command a higher price..

It's like anything really. Whatever you are selling is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it. There are a lot of time-wasters out there, and a lot who want something for nothing, but sooner or later the right buyer will come along and fall in love with it.

i just paid £995 my 1994 mayfly.. this puts me in the £1000-ish bracket.. i have added a powrtouch motor mover.. new hitch damper.. gas bottles and fittings.. water containers and a spare pump.. a small porch awning.. many small tweaks and fiddles..

my £1000 pound van now stands me at near £2000..

was it worth it.. yes its now as good as any van out there.. i doubt i would get any more than £1200 for it if i wanted to sell.. i dont intend to sell just to get some good use out of it..

would i have paid two grand in the first place for an old van.. no.. he he
