Have just returned from Stafford with a Freedom Twin Sport (unladen) fitted with Alko tow bar. Towed it home with partners Yeti fitted with swan neck tow hook (fitted by Skoda dealer) and the caravan does not ride level - a lot lower at the rear end.

Can anyone give a solution please as I see on this forum others have towed with swan neck Yeti tow bars without any problems.

Check the towball height it should be 350mm to 420mm from the ground to the centre height of the ball.

That measurement is usually taken with the vehicle laden though.

I think ive seen another thread on this subject. Have a search.

The standard Yeti tow bar measures out at the top of the recommended height.
It has been taken up with Skoda and Westphalia but they state that it is the correct parameters and therefore they can do nothing about it. I know of 2 owners that have bought the Westphalia hook fitting from a VW Tiguan which has "cured" the problem.
Mine as fitted is fine.

Last week we towed with our Yeti for the first tie after a lot of concern. When laden to 80kg noseweight (85kg is recommended for our 170 dsg 4x4, although 80kg is recommended for most)it towed level or veeeerrrry slightly nose down. We spoke to a local specialist tow bar fitter and he said that the Skoda Westfalia tow bar is at the top end of the height and recommended that we tow at the upper limit of the noseweight. He also said that a different hook should not be used unless approved by Westfalia. It towed really well and had plenty of power.

Mine sits in exactly the same way. Like you I run mine at 85kg nose weight after finding the 80kg was a bit bouncy.

The fitter is bound to say that as it is the official line; I've seen the letter from Westphalia stating exactly the same. However the only difference with the Tiguan hook is the slightly shorter distance to the top of the ball, everything else is the same. You can only tell they are different if you put them side by side. Most people wouldn't know and the only "official" way of telling would be by the part number and that isn't exactly obvious. As said I know of 2 members of the Yeti forum who have done this with no problems at all.

We have a Freedom that we tow with a Vauxhall Meriva. It also sits slightly nose up/tail down but is very stable when towing.
We too have had everything checked & given the all clear.

I have a Hydundai Tuscan with a Jetstrem. It is also slightly up at the front and so far....no issues.

Thanks for all your replies. What do you consider as an acceptable nose up/tail down level/limit? I think the Yeti's tow hitch is probably at the maximum height limit but still wonder if a different tow hitch would be more beneficial. But is there an alternative to the swan neck that Skoda dealers fit?

As I said the height of the Westphalia hitch fitted is at the top limit of the EU approved measurement, but does drop when the car is loaded, but not by much.

My Bailey with an 85kg nose weight is perfectly level and I am happy with that.

A few people on the BriSkoda forum have had Witter bars fitted and these do appear to be lower, however the Westphalia one is the only one approved by Skoda.
