Have decided to buy a new van, it will be an Explore 574 or a Bailey Pursuit . Should I buy now or wait till the new models arrive in late August/September. What do you good folks think?
John.

have just bought a new 2014 Swift. Was thinking about a Pursuit but the dealer I talked to said that the 2015 model will have unchanged spec from the current one. bet the prices won't be unchanged though.

I got a really good deal by buying one of the last 2014 'vans. Since I intend to keep it for at least five years I'd rather have the discount (to spend on more stuff for your 'van).

I would buy now. We bought our swift in Sept 2009, it was new, not had people trawling around it as demo, we got 0ver 2k off and did not have to pay the £500 or so delivery costs, that paid for our motor mover, awning and all the bits and bobs, the following year they made some very slight changes, mainly colour of fridge, we have been delighted with our purchase and in almost 5 years have had 54 trips and visited 70 campsites and still loving it. I'd buy now if you want to save money, but negotiate hard. We got extras, money off and a twin axle mover thrown in with ours 12mths ago!

Only tiny niggle is some of the minor reviews made on the next model you may wish you had on yours but apart from that definitely makes better economical sense!

Wait.

Retail sales figures are falling fast. Consumer spending has been artificially skewed by low mortgage rates - this is coming to an end, and spending is slowing as people prepare for what could be a sizeable rise in mortgage and variable credit repayments.

If the laws of supply and demand remain unchanged, fewer buyers will dictate lower prices.

So I'd advise waiting - if the inevitable;e rate rises will impact adversely on you, at least you won't have saddled yourself with another large financial commitment.

If, however, you are unaffected by the forthcoming rate rises, then you will almost certainly benefit as buyers become scare and dealers cut margins to encourage sales.

Remember the car bargains that were around in 2008 - we picked up a car from Perrys with over 8K off the list price!, simply because they *needed* to shift models.

Caravan manufacturers and dealers seem have got a bit uppity in recent years - buoyed up by artificial economic stimuli. When those props are removed, prices will fall to what the market can really afford.

I glanced in the mirror, and it was love at first sight...
