I have been doing a little bit of research with regards to the car's tyre pressure whilst towing a Caravan.
Its not conclusive some people say to inflate them to the maximum as shown in your hand book for carrying a heavy load and others say that to prevent loss of grip on your front tyre's you should inflate the rear tyre's to the maximum but leave the front ones as a light load.
So thought I would ask the question here ??
What do you do ??
Also having inflated my tyre's to the maximum could anyone give me a tip of how to deflate them again without standing there for ages with a screwdriver holding the valve down ??
loosen the valve with an appropriate tool and dont be too anal about type pressures..
i just bought fancy 12 volt pump off roaders use them to deflate down to 15 psi for the off road bit and back up to normal road pressure for the on road bit..
it inflates a large 4 x 4 tyre in about three minutes from flat to 36 psi and has a little button on the gauge to rapidly deflate..
i bought it cos i like gadgets and got stuck with having to change a truck tyre last week in an awkward spot....
65 quid off ebay.. i can now be as anal as i like with my tyres.. he he.. google the name T max 12 volt pump..

I use one of these. It checks the tyre pressure (as my air pump isn't that accurate) and will also deflate the tyres if you put too much air in. gizmo
I bought mine from a local car accessories shop.
I would also be interested to know what others do about car pressure when towing. I always pump both front and back tyres to the max heavy load.
a van on the back will transfer weight from the front tyres to the rear tyres.. so whilst it makes sense to blow the rear ones up a bit harder maybe the front ones are best left softer..
it must make a difference as to the load in the car as well.. three fat people and a boot full of luggage puts a lot more load on the cars rear suspension and tyres than the average 75 kg a van puts on things..
i would think without the three fat people and boot full of luggage the car tyres are okay as they normally would be..
but the general mantra seems to be.. when in doubt blow blow everything up as hard as you dare.. he he
