We are going to pick up our first caravan Bailey Pageant Magenta 2002 next Saturday (we're buying from a friend who's moving on to a motor home) and I'm really excited. We've been camping for 11 years and have had a Dandy Folding Camper for the last 4 (which I loved) but I'm really looking forward to getting our first van - any tips for a newbie?

Welcome to the tin toppers. We made the transition from tents to Pennine FC and now a caravan. We absolutely love it and whenever I see caravans being towed I wish I was away in ours.

We also moved from a dandy to a caravan - never looked back. Don't miss the set up we used to have with the dandy. Enjoy!!!

We collected our new caravan this afternoon and are therefore now officially the owners of a Bailey Pageant Magenta caravan who we have named Rosalee. We collected her from our friend this afternoon and she is now safely ensconced in her Fort Knox like storage facility.

Hope you enjoy your new van. We changed from tent last year. We have had lots of short week-ends away because we haven't been weather dependant. I have loved accessorising the van to make it "mine" and still use a lot of our camping equipment so have kept the memories going from previous holidays.

Hi we are campers turned caravanners too. Picked up our first ever van - Eldiss 540 2010 just over a week ago and wow we absolutely love it! We've always loved camping but caravanning is something else. Just come back from a lovely weekend at Tollington Lakes and can't wait to get out in the van again. Enjoy!

Same here, ex-tenters with our first caravan. Should have done it years ago!

I've found invaluable advice on sites like Caravan Club and Practical Caravan - especially their series of videos on the Caravan Channel website.

Enjoy.

Hi Harley12. What we did was just went round a few caravan sales sites and looked in a lot of vans and decided what we liked and what we didn't about different layouts etc. The weight of the caravan in relation to what our car could tow was also a factor but the sales people did a check to tell us what was compatible for our vehicle before we bought our lovely caravan.

Had a full service done yesterday which she got through generally very well, but we have got to get 2 new tyres and a new leisure battery. Can't wait now for our first trip away on 8th August.

The Caravan & Camping Club site at Winchcombe near Tewkesbury. We wanted somewhere not too far away as we're only staying for 2 nights.
I did find a very nice Adults Only site (which we prefer) between Bridgnorth and Ludlow but unfortunately as it was short notice they were full but Winchcombe looks to be a good 2nd choice,

Jayne

Harley 12, I am in Teesside. I have used Chris Nugent Tel 01642 327652 who is a Mobile Caravan Service Engineer. You could give him a call and ask him if he knows anyone selling one. Also he might do an inspection for you when you find a caravan.Checking for damp is essential, do not assume if the seller says there is no damp, then that is true. Good luck.
