I've got a very attractive quote for memory foam mattress toppers for all 4 beds in our caravan, made to measure, 2" thick with covers for £102! (that's for all 4, not each!) Far, far cheaper than the duvalay equivalent... I always think you get what you pay for, so am I likely to regret this purchase?
Is there anything on memory foam that I should be asking about (are their different densities for example?)
Our memory foam topper smelled odd for several days...soon goes. I would be very wary if there was negative feedback for the items. I also think you get what you pay for.
have a look on the home bargains website , have silent night mattress topper at £39.99. bought 2 last week, they are memory foam not normal foam, they do look fairly thin but when on bunks in caravan they are very comfy.i think the price is normally £59.99 for a single so a good saving.
We baulked at buying the Duvalay toppers - they *are* very overpriced, imo - but we managed to get an end of season deal from Brownhills Motorhomes. Still not exactly cheap - but the fact that we could get nice quality zipped sheets for them swung it for us.
We started using them this year, and it has to be said that they are very good. Whether they're worth the full price is debatable, but they're good quality memory foam and make a terrific job of smoothing out the lumps & bumps of caravan cushions.
They're only 1" thick (which I assumed wouldn't be enough) but after many years of caravanning, this season has seen the most comfortable caravan nights we've ever had.
------------- I glanced in the mirror, and it was love at first sight...
Hi we bought from these last year - we have a fixed transverse bed, I have to say the first topper came and it was the wrong size as they are made to measure, they sent a replacement on next day delivery and said we could give the other one to a friend or charity, we gave it to a friend.
Ours was £50.00 - our van is a 2005 van and it made a big difference, you do get what you pay for we have a tempur mattress at home and it's not a patch on that, it would be silly of me to compare, but for a mattress topper for £50.00 it's fine. Our friends who were a bit sceptical but were happy as it was free have said they were pleased and it had made their 2008 bed more comfortable, the only thing is I think we ordered 3" - for the extra it might be worth doing that and also ensure you give the correct measurements - we were very anxious when the wrong size arrived but luckily it wasn't our problem.
I guess if you can afford duvalay that's the way to go but we are saving for a new van so it's was silly to spend that money now.

You do get different densities of memory foam (and reflex foam) and yes memory foam does "gas" and smells funny for a few days until aired. Generally heavier you are the higher density you would be ideal with. Low density foam is used in cheap mattresses
Whether the nasty stuff in memory foam is dangerous long term I am still not sure but I would not buy cheap unknown brands of it
Natural latex is an alternative but much more expensive
We use self inflating mattresses and these work well for us
