As the title suggests the door skin on my Elddis Jetstream is filling with rain water. After inspection there are 3 holes in a second skin to the locker door. In closed position these holes are positionew at the top of the locker. When the locker is opened these holes are then at the bottom and the water drains out, albeit slowly.

I don't understand why the holes are there in the first place and I'm hoping someone can educate me.

Cheers.

The holes are probably there as it's a gas locker, which needs air vents. Usually there is one in the floor of the compartment though. I've never heard of this before!

TBH I would put a purpose made vent in the floor and fill in the holes!

It might be possible to get a plastic sill or something to attach over the top of the holes, so that they are still there to vent, but the sill would prevent the holes from filling with water.

I would have a word with

this company about fitting one of these, or maybe they can suggest something better.

These are what I have in the gas department, situated on the floor. There is a metal mesh underneath these, which stops insects crawling in. As gas is heavier than air, any escaping gas goes downwards, I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

If you already have something like this already installed in the bottom of the locker, then you might just be able to fill in the holes with a sealant like sikaflex... after the inner part has dried out completely.

Jax365, correct, propane and Butane ARE heavier than air hence the ventilation on the floor.
I have posted a slightly different question regarding the gas locker. My 'door' on the gas locker has distorted and does not close properly, 2003 Buccaneer Caribbean, and help with finding a replacement or GRP repair?

cheers
Chris

So holes positioned at the top of the locker like the OP's are virtually useless then - that's if they really are meant to be gas vents! I can only say that I have never seen holes along the top of a gas locker.

Distortion is a bit harder, Chris. Could you perhaps take it off and immerse in a bowl/bath of hot water and weight it so that the distortion is reversed? In effect, distorting it back into shape. Maybe a hairdryer on hot might do the trick without taking it off. Check that the distortion isn't just being caused by a seal coming off on the inside. Or could be that your gas bottle isn't secure and has pushed the gas locker door in transit? The last case is not very likely, there is usually a securement fitting for gas bottles, to stop them moving about in transit, but I have heard of several that have no restraints, other than that they are shut in the box.

Other than that, look for one as spares or accessories, email the caravan breakers as they might have one in stock. This place is good.

Hi Hiekel, Looking at a picture of a Jetstream I assume that the locker door is double skinned GRP. I had these type of doors no an old Abbey with no holes and they filled with water. I had to drill holes to drain the water out. If you drill some holes at the bottom of the door the water should drain out as fast as it enters.

Agent 8, that's exactly what it is, maybe I could have described it better. It's filling between the 2 skins. Seems a very odd place to have 3 holes in the skin that allows the water in.
