Does anyone have both a caravan and a folding camper? We love our caravan but don't venture far in it - our car is adequate to tow but struggles with hills and I get the feeling that my husband finds towing a bit tiring (he hates driving at the best of times) We don't have the option to buy another car unless we take out finance which we're not keen to do.
So, as we also really enjoyed our Folding Camper which we sold when buying the caravan, I'm wondering whether to get another one. I have found an absolute bargain which is very tempting.
So, my question is,does anyone have both and enjoy using both?
We had been using a Conway folding camper for 5 years which we kept when we bought a Gobur folding caravan just over a year ago to extend or seasonal use. As the folding camper was still in great condition and we hadn't used it since, we sold it a few weeks ago.
The Gobur has been perfect and we now have the best of both worlds, easy to tow, very quick to set up and with no worries about the weather.meaning we are out most weekends.

Hi we went from a Pennine folding camper (using it nearly every other weekend from April to Sept) and progressed to a caravan, yes a change when towing as it is bigger, you cannot see over it and you have to know what you are doing when it is windy and when a box van passes--the box vans don't half make a suction that drags you a bit. We have never looked back from changing, we now camp all year round, away every new year-on no elec hook up, solar panel all the way. good luck in whatever you choose to do. Maybe get hubby to do a caravan towing course to give him some confidence with the van.
We have our caravan on a seasonal pitch as we do not have a big enough car to tow it and love being able to just go down there and have the awning up and everything ready. Until last year we also had a trailer tent for when we wanted to go elsewhere (did 6 weeks in Holland to celebrate our retirement last year). Old age is now catching up with us so we sold the tt when we got back last year and bought a small 2 berth tourer which lives in our garden and took us to Belgium earlier this year.
Hubby has been towing the caravan for 3 years and at first was more than happy to go anywhere but this year he seems reluctant to go further than the New Forest which is lovely but it would be good to go somewhere else. I did think of trying a tent again but after testing one out in the garden I soon went off that idea! The folding camper really suited us and although I love the comfort of the caravan we seemed so much more happy go lucky with the camper. The caravan comes into its own for early and late rallies but we've hardly been on any this year and I really really want to get out there.
The ideal solution would be to get a more powerful car but we don't want to take out finance as we're paying off something else at the moment.
We wanted a caravan so that we could do lots of green field camping and its been fantastic for that but I'm getting a bit of a "been there & done that" feeling and its starting to get repetitive.
Perhaps we just need to change to proper sites to get back that enjoyment and anticipation that we used to feel
