Hi all, first post so please be gentle
Can i first say that we are only exploring all the options at the moment and don't want to get into a debate about the pro's and con's of such a system.
We have a 2003 Bessacarr Cameo 525SL and we would like to find out if our van is able to have a rear cycle rack.
If someone could point us in the right direction it would be most appreciated.

Don't know that much but from what i've read cycles are best on roof of car, back of car or inside caravan in that order. Please feel free to correct me anybody, I don't want to be giving duff info!

Putting aside for one moment whether the rear of the caravan is the best place for a bike rack you need to establish whether your van has any reinforcement plates built in. As Bessacarr is part of the Swift group I would suggest e-mailing their customer services department to see if they can help.

You need to contact the manufacturer and see if the wall is strong enough to support the weight.

And where the fixing points will have to go.

Worst place to put them in my opinion.

My swift can take bikes on the back and it's a popular place to put them in Europe but I removed mine and the bikes go on the roof of the car

We have our bikes on the tow bar inbetween the caravan and car, they tend to lean a bit and you have to watch they are on correctly when going round corners, but this saves lifting them on to a high roof of a car - we needed a step each time with ours when we done this.

This is another option as long as your car can cope with 80-100kg of caravan and 20- 80 kg of bikes dependiong on number. to the best of my knowledge only the big 4x4 (toyota, Nissan pathfinder and LR0 can do this. Also if you have more than 2 bikes they stick out too far.

Doesnt that put you over the noseweight limit?

The weight of te bikes and the carrier. Or does youre van have a very low noseweight?

We have a behind the tow ball mounted bike rack on our land rover discovery. Perfect for towing as does not increase the nose weight on the van.

The discovery can probably take the extra weight unfortunately mine can't. The nose weight for the van won't change with the bikes but is is the weight of the bikes and van that makes up the noseweight (max weight on the rear axle of the car). Therefore 2 or 3 bikes and rack at 55kgs and van NW at 75kgs = 130kgs. Only a few 4x4 can take that weight, as far as I understand it.
