Towing a caravan at 50mph on a 60mph single carriageway is no worse than most HGVs - I don't see many of them pulling into laybys to allow traffic to pass.
That's true, but it would be nice if they did occasionally! The only time I've ever seen this happen was on the A9 to Inverness, years ago.
However, it is courteous, if and where possible, to pull in and let the traffic go past. I often think it's much better than being hassled from behind, with impatient drivers trying to overtake rashly and risking not only their own necks, but yours as well.
I've been driving on some country roads, just a car, no caravan.
I kept to the speed limit pretty much all the time (sometimes that's not safe, so I was a bit slower).
Anyway, I STILL got tailgated and flashed and so on by people who think that the speed limit wasn't meant for them. So I wouldn't worry about it, it's them, not you!
A few years back I was towing a van in Norfolk with a tail back of 20/30 vehicles it was like a night at Blackpool illuminations honking horns flashing lights failed attempts to overtake me.At last a sign said dual carriageway a head soon as my rig was fully on dual carriage way people roared pased shaking their fists ,then they saw the tatty old red mini in front of me who,s driver was about 90 I dont know whether it was the drivers age or the smoking mini that couldnot do more than26/28 MPH what a lot of red faces. automatically jumping to conclusions that it was I who was to blame because I was towing a caravan.
But all highways and byeways that have a speed restriction sign, Remember its the maxium permitted speed allowed not the minimum speed permitted on that road,Which I think a lot of people think it is.
Just been stuck behind a french outfit coming out of Jedburgh heading for the english border.Quite a hilly area and not many opportunities to pass in my truck.I did eventually pass them going uphill when they were down to about 15 mph!!! The outfit....a bright yellow citroen 2cv towing a tiny eriba (or similiar).I couldnt help a little chuckle as I noticed the "SORRY" sticker on the rear of the van. Caution..they will be in england by now---and yes.they are driving too slowly!!!
