After spending some years making meals afresh...well the wife has....we decided that we should try a different approach. We prepare our caravan meals before we travel and freeze them in those aluminum trays, Then, just before we set off with the van, load them into the freezer and they are still frozen when we get to our holiday site. Half an hour in the oven and dinner is served. No preparation whilst on holiday

This week..............

Sunday - Beouf Bourgignon with crispy potatoes and veg
Monday - Chicken Chasseure
Tuesday - Spaghetti Bolognese (I make my own sauce and none of this packet stuff!!)
Wednesday - Stroganhof -just bring sour cream to pour over as it's heating up + Uncle Bens
Thursday - Fish Pie
Friday - Stuffed loin of pork

Excellent meals and next to no work when on holiday.

Today was Sunday..........Bottle of red...........

We do exactly the same I don't want to spend my time away cooking but neither do we like eating processed rubbish that your not quiet sure its what it says on the tin, if I'm doing a roast in the weeks before we go beef or lamb I buy a slightly larger joint and make extra gravy slice the meat and pour over some gravy and freeze just have to do some fresh veg and we have a lovely roast dinner.

OH does that - its a bit like making your own 'boil in the bag'

OH started doing it since we couldn't get the 'flying optic' brand stuff because they've stopped doing it and the only stuff we could get was from a supermarket beginning with 'M' and it was vile or a specialist frozen food outlet which shares its name with a country and theirs was also vile.

OH just cooked the beef for slightly less than we would normally and sealed it in a plastic re-sealable bag with home made gravy.

Caravan freezer to microwave and bob's your mother or father's brother!!

Another fan here of cooking in the foil containers, although l tend to use 'one pot' recipes and cook from fresh on site, it only takes a couple of mins to place the meat or fish in the container, and top with seasoning and freshly chopped veg.

I actually enjoy cooking on site, often using local ingredients that are not readily available at home such as fresh Crab and Lobster, but my foil dishes do make life a lot easier when it comes to doing the washing up.

I'm also a fan of frozen "leftovers". We have room for a max of 3 meals like that so mix it up with BBQ etc anyway but is just to be able to have a good home cooked meal without the effort.

I do this too, saves on shopping etc when you are away too, though I always seem to end up in a Morrisons no matter where I go, which is strange because I don't usually shop there. I also give myself a night off the cooking completely and have fish and chips.

Wow that is very posh .
I do the same but mine is usually bolognaise , curry , quiche , schnitzel . And I always boil some ham.

Very basic but keeps us going for about a week or just over.
We also freeze our bread .
Al this helps with fridge and freezer when travelling .

Each to their own, but we cook fresh as cooking is still an enjoyment not a chore. I am a retired Chef anyway so the passion is always there for cooking and food. It doesn't have to be 'posh nosh', far from it. But as I mentioned, the enjoyment is cooking for others and knowing that they enjoyed the food. Cooking in the van and when camping is a challenge on its own, so always good to see how other people prepare and cook their food.
Nice selection by the way Phil, you obviously enjoy the variety of the food!
