i have just bought a maxview satellite dish it does not come with satellite receiver but i already have a Freeview box which I can record, rewind and pause. so my question is will this work the same as a satellite receiver?. thanks
i want to be able to record, pause and rewind, i do not have Ethernet/internet, do i need freesat box or free to air if there is a difference? at present i have freewiew which i now know (thanks to bob) that you only use this with an ariel which is what i have been doing but the reception is not good even with my nearly touching the sky ariel!! and not with my newly purchased satellite dish. although someone had suggested i can use my freewiew with freesat to record! i am hoping someone could point me into the right direction, and help me purchase the correct product. thank you to you all in advance.
"Free to air".. Through dish but you won't get teletext/ ceefax or whatever it's called these days ( subtitles, news etc) and you will get loads of foreign channels and regional variations. Receivers tend to be cheaper but you have to spend loads of time sorting through all the channels.
Some freesat receivers have a DVR/PVR ( recorder) built in. Or you can plug a memory stick in the back and record on that.
For a simple easy to use satellite recorder, you can't get much better than a Humax Foxsat Freesat HD PVR.
I have the older 320gb model which has around 20 films stored on it, handy if there is no satellite signal at the campsite.
The newer Humax models are now 500gb or even 1TB! but 320gb is plenty especially if most stuff to be recorded is SD instead of HD.
If you are a Sky subscriber then a Sky+ PVR you can either take your own from home, or take out another Sky+ PVR box with there MultiScreen (aka MultiRoom) offer although it is £49 one of payment for the box and the £11.25 per month on top of your subscription, but you can cancell the MultiScreen £11.25 subscription at any time, so just cancell for when you are not camping although they would require a months notice.
Inner Zone is quite correct, we run our Humax Foxsat HD Satellite receiver of a single Feed, which has inputs for 2 Feeds and a third Feed output.
Pause and Rewind Live TV are unaffected when using a Single Feed, and the only compromise would be when recording 2 program's at the same time, as the 2 program's would have to be on the same Polarity (H/V) and be in the same band (Hi/Lo).
Sky+ users can insert a SP1 Priority Switch a small device that converts a Single Feed into 2 at the receiver end, this tricks the Sky+ Box into seeing 2 Feeds, albeit with the compromise mentioned above.
Yep alpiner.
I guess you got a std Sky box, you can also find Sky+ box's down the car boot, but to have the Record/Rewind and Pause Live TV functions you would need a viewing card from Sky, with either a package subscription of around £30 per month, or just a £10 per month subscription to get the functionality but so only FTV/FTA channels.
