It's a 12 volt outlet. It once had a cover on it (you can see the plastic hinge for it) - check inside to see if it's still connected, if it is, disconnect until you can find a cover or swap the outlet.

Hi eddywin88, what is it for?

Seems a strange place to have a 12v outlet.

We have the same on our van and was told its to run a pump to fill the top of the toilet saves having to lift a container or watering can. Never used it, also we had one on our Lunar caravan.

Thanks Sennen.

Personally we have a 2lt plastic bottle that we fill if we are near any tap and that does for the cistern to keep it topped up.
It also keeps the dogs water bowl well filled.
Easy to carry and easy to use without thinking about lifting heavy containers.

Yeah, had one in a Buccaneer Elan I had many years ago. Wire and tube ran separately from a submersible pump. There was no on off switch so water started running as soon as you plugged into the 12 volt socket. You can still get them from caravan accessories shops.

I thought it was for filling the onboard tank from an external water container.

Hi Lobey,

As others have said, it's almost certainly to run a submersible pump. I fitted something similar to fill a MH water tank when it was inconvenient to drive to the tap.

Twice the work, though - fill the aquaroll, back to the MH, then pump out of the aquaroll and into the MH tank.

Not sure why someone would use it to fill a toilet flush tank - we just carry a watering can for that purpose.

Your best bet would probably be to replace the whole socket.

You need a 'marine' type - waterproof (or, at least, splash proof)

You can get metal ones in a similar size and design to your existing socket from marine chandlers - around £20

A cheaper option (and better because it would provide you with a standard 'cigar' socket, instead of a proprietary socket) would be

this

With luck it will cover the existing screw holes.

You must have an internal water tank on your van. This plug is were the submersival water pump plugs in. Is there a filler cap sited close to it.
