The manufacturers max tow is the max weight the car will pull away on a hill without breaking or rolling back down.
It doesnt take into account a tall caravan with crosswinds etc.
Your close to 100% match on the lower spec A5's so thats the issue.

Looking at Bobmel's link above, towing a lightweight 4-berth (used Venus 490/4 as sample) gives you a 75% ratio to an A5; 160HP would let you tow up a 1-in-5 slope (24%) and a max speed of 88mph, which would frighten the pants off me. So plenty spare then!
"Towing Report - Audi and Lunar
"The towing capability for the Audi A5 - 2.0 TDI [Multitronic]with a Lunar Venus 490/4:
[Stability index = 9 / 7.4 Towball: 75 kg.]
[weight ratio 75%] 1185 kg / 1570 kg
[Speed index: 70 mph]
[Max gradient: 24%]
"Audi A5 - 2.0 TDI [Multitronic] (120 kW/161 bhp)
Date of manufacture: september 2011 - up to now. Towball limit: 80 kg (Advise: 75 kg)
Important for safe towing is the weight ratio between Car and Caravan. The weight ratio (loaded caravan / kerbweight tow car) for the Audi and Lunar is 75%. This means that the match between car and caravan is perfect. The stability and safety index is very good for this outfit.
"The towing performances of this Audi with your Lunar are perfect (performance index = 70).
You may expect excellent performances from this outfit. On flat roads it's easy to come along, top gear is applicable in all cases.
"On motorway inclines you will be able not only to come along, but be the first at the top. On steep roads you have more than sufficient power to keep going. On hill starts there will be more than enough power to get going, provided the wheels have traction. "

Thanks, we have decided to go to the NEC and have a good look round, we will get sorted, think it was a shock that such a big car can only pull such a light weight van.
Guess I won't be moving any horse boxes full of horses with it!!

My neighbours 300C turns heads. The RAC man appears to be growing out of its bonnet.
He seems to spend more time under there than the owner does sitting behind the wheel.

Download the brochure from Audi.co.uk/brochures. Page 85 gives the towing limits and the unladen weight of each model. You should aim to get something that weighs around 85% of the weight of the car. The towing limit is what the car can tow not what it is safe to tow - hence the 85% guide.
The lowest powered A5 is 136PS - people used to tow with 60 or 70hp Ford Cortina's so I don't think you should worry about power as long as you look at something with a safe weight. Caravan Buyer magazine has a handy guide within.
Happy hunting.
Very sound advice but do not get too stuck up with the 85% of the kerbweight figure. If it is a bit more it will not be a problem but whatever do not buy a caravan that weighs more than your cars kerbweight.
------------- Bill
For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Just need to find out approx kerb weight of the A5 model your looking at. All the 2.0L diesel models look to start from 1520kg looking on Parkers (see link below)
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/facts-and-figures/audi/a5/sportback-2009/dimensions/
Then find caravans with an MTPLM of 85% of that figure.
Eg. Carvan MTPLM (approx)
= car kerbweight x 85 divided by 100.
Incidentally are you in Bradford by any chance Wibsey?

I knew it…we're up at Westwood Park Clayton Heights. Spent many a happy day down in Wibsey park as a young lad and with my daughter growing up.
Storage, my first though would be the place down bottom of Wyke, you can see from the main Huddersfield road on your right as you're driving down.
There is one over at Morley which isn't too far, we went to look at a van there and the charges seemed a little more reasonable but still secure. There's one at Tong and indoor storage at Queensbury.
Use this link for places:-

And its probably the same one i mentioned before.

Does the stretch have a tow bar fitted ???
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
