Took my Lunar Clubman to a weighbridge today.. I was told it weighs 1440kg, I asked how accurate it was and he said it weighs in units of 20kg.Does that mean the actual weight could be between1420 and 1440? If it was 1421 would the scale read 1440?
Thanks.
John
our 50 ton weigh bridge has a + or- 20kg accuracy there fore if you weigh 1414kg it will read 1400kg if it weighs 1416kg it will show 1420kg hope this helps

I think there are 2 issues here, the OP said the weighbridge weighed in 20kg units and the second post refers to the tolerance of the weight or what is otherwise known as the measurement uncertanty.
In the OP I would understand a weight of 1440 could be between 1430 & 1450 but if a tolerance of + or - 20 kg is applied the caravan could be between 1420 & 1460 but if they are both applied the weight could be between 1410 & 1470!!!!!
When I was operating an accelerating steelyard weighbridge (That's the type -not the business) it was weighing in long tons and pounds. It was accurate to the pound (lb). Regularly checked by weight & measures.
The weighbridge at Longleat forestry is accurate to 5kg.
An accuracy of 20kg is pretty inaccurate. That's nearly a bag of cement.
what happens if you are stopped and your van is weighed and the scales are reading +20kgs But as matter of fact you are within your caravans M T P L M. you will be prosecuted and your insurance is void so how due you prove you are innocent. I Know of pick-up drivers and com van drivers who have been prosecuted for over weight but have never heard of a caravan owner being done , I hope it never happens so load your van correctly and make sure your train is level so as not to give the powers to be a chance to prosecute not just the police but also customs and exercise people. I have seen a caravan and car in layby used by the police for spot checks, But I have always been waved on, Touch Wood.
My previous post about the rear springs on my Kia Sportage will help explain why I have been to the weighbridge. When packing the caravan for a long trip 20kg is a lot of payload to lose.
I was surprised about the accuracy, the weighbridge was at a coal merchant.
I tend to agree with rushallmanor, in that it weighs no less than1430 and no more than 1450.
OK To my previous post I am an accredited public weighbridge operator our weighbridge is used by Vosa and they are happy with a + or - 20 kg limit .It is the accuracy most weighbridges work to so yes if your van weighs 1460 it can be any where between 1450 and 1470kg
I need to get mine on a weigh bridge with my car to see how close to the 3500kg limit I am on my licence, my old outlander I was under but I haven't check with the Audi yet!
Tetchy100, don't think the actual weights have anything to do with the 3500kg limit,I think it goes on the plated weights of the van and car.
Grampian 91 will explain.

It would do if your outfit was loaded in excess of the plated weight. That being the case the driver would not only be committing offences of using an overweight vehicle, but driving licence and insurance offences.
