My steps were sinking in the soft earth, so I came up with this idea. Two pieces of plumbing waste pipe with holes cut in to accomodate the four feet. This spreads the load over a greater surface making the steps stable and safe. I also drilled a couple of holes in each of them to push tent peg through to stop any sliding. Sorted! Hope this helps.
Good idea except that it's is no different to the 'Milenco' rubber double step apart from that the round bars are fixed either side rather than front and back. I looked at the 'Royal' double step previously but the platforms are made of plastic and not rubber which is not as good as the Milenco steps for both reasons. Buying the right steps saves messing about cutting lengths of waste pipes or bits of wood to do the same job.
T55 from what I have read on another site that step gets some pretty crap reviews. I had been thinking about buying one until I read them.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Good idea, well done. I think, looking at your photo, i'm right in saying your step is from aldi at a cost of £14.99, so for my money i'd go with the pieces of pipe rather than buying a lot more expensive step.
I bought a set of steps in Aldi which were a copy of steps in Eggrace Deb photo.
But they are far supperior in every way they are made from heavier gauge steel tubing and the steps themselves are re-enforced underneath with1/4" diameter bar. so the tread of the step does not become hollow and collect water.
The price £14.99 as comphered to £28.99 depending were others where purchased.
My previous set were Milenco but sank on treads and gathered water which became sliippy in wet weather and were less than 12months old and cost me £28.99 from caravan dealership.
Yes, mine were £14.99 from Aldi and the top step does indeed become distorted (hollow), but you get what you pay for I suppose. But the pipes do solve a problem and more importantly make them safer to use. The advantage of the pipes over pieces of wood is the pipes can be "nailed" to the grass with a couple of steel tentpegs, stopping the step from sliding, and are very light. Much safer in my opinion. Happy and safe camping!
The reason why the Milenco steps are more expensive is because they are manufactured from lightweight aluminium which costs more to buy originally than steel. The difference is that the Milenco steps won't rust and can be lifted easily by one finger which is beneficial when you are calculating the caravan payload. As you can see, peeled paint and rust are already evident in the first post which this proves that the Milenco are a better investment for more reasons than one.
