We have prevously travelled from the Warrington Area to South Wales using the Wrexham, Oswestry, Welshpool, route through Builth Wells. When we had a trailer with the camping gear we would stop in Newtown for a McDs and a wee. Now we have a caravan. Does anyone have any good stop offs on this route which are caravan friendly? The alternative of the M6, M5, M50 M4 car park isn't an option (and its about 80 miles further).
Take the Llangurig / Llanidloes route from Newtown, and stop in car park by river in Builth Wells. Does mean driving all round Builth back to the car park but usually enough room for cars and caravan. Toilets there as well and ideal to walk a dog if you have one.

Could still use macdonalds in newtown. I work in newtown and often see motorhomes and caravans parked in the carpark, while they eat. If you turn left as come out of macdonalds you go into a big carpark.
------------- Enjoy life while you can, none of us know what's round the corner!
If you turn right at the roundabout at the southern end of the Welshpool by-pass and head back towards Welshpool there is Coed-yr-Dinas Garden Centre that always seems to have room in the gravel car parks on the left as you go in.
Just south of Welshpool there is a good transport cafe with a big lay-by.
As "ferretlady" says, for Newtown, but personally I wouldn't bother.
There is a cafe with a big lay-by about a mile south of Llandinam. Often has lorries in it.
There is another cafe about half a mile further, on the left. They do an excellent Sunday lunch! Car park isn't very big though.
There are plenty of excellent cafes here in Llanidloes, but unfortunately not a lot of room for caravans!!
Forget Rhayader as there is no-where to park with a caravan.
A couple of miles south of Rhayader there is a cafe and shop at a petrol station on the right.
Builth has a big car park just over the river bridge, but you need to drive around town to get to it.
If we stop everywhere suggested we will never get there!
Thanks Csrole for the advice on McDs in Newtown. We weren't sure if the big carpark was caravan friendly/accessible.
Builth is probably the winner.
Thanks all for the advice on using the Llangurig road rather than Llandidrod Wells. We used it coming back from Devils Bridge yesterday and it's a cracking road.
