Ah, the things that we lay awake at night worrying about
Some sites will insist on a breathable ground sheet as it doesn't kill their grass, others don't mind and if it's hardstanding it doesn't matter.
We tend to separate our awning up a bit.
An area without anything so we can get in out of the rain/sun quickly and take coats and shoes off before stepping onto...
an area of interlocking foam matting. We bought it from Aldi a couple of years ago, it has holes in, so counts as breathable, and provides a soft flooring even on hardstanding.
If we're on hardstanding this does us, if not then we put out a breathable ground sheet as another area where we put our table and chairs.
We carry a standard ground sheet, in case the ground is wet underfoot as the breathable one would absorb water if it was in a puddle - I bought it from Blacks a few years ago and it's never been out of the bag!
If we used the standard one more then I would follow my brother's tenting tip. He puts a DIY shop dust sheet, which is actually very thin plastic sheeting, underneath. It keeps his groundsheet dry and clean and makes for an easier pack-up as the 'dust sheet' is disposable.
We haven't yet ventured into winter camping.
Advice for this may be different.

This is the breathable groundsheet we use. Very hard wearing, we've had ours for years, and can be cleaned with a pressure washer.

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We also use the interlocking foam matting with holes in. Same as Mr Tee we cover probably 2 thirds of the awning leaving an area near the door to remove wet shoes and coats. We bought ours from local caravan shop, they always have them in stock at 'The Range' too.

The 'waterpump' really should have come with your 'van in one form or another.
