We are newbies and are thinking of purchasing a caravan however on reading some topics of this forum we have realised that the size/weight of caravan depends on the car towing it.
We have a Peugot 307 1.6engine how do we know what size/weight of caravan we should be towing? Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Start on a tow car matching website I think you tell it your car details then it tells you what you can tow.
If not get the details of a couple of vans you like the look of and do that with your car on a tow matching website and it will tell you if it is suitable. Or on your car will be a plate which will tell you the maximum you can tow

You need to go on information in your car handbook not matching sites that often contain incorrect information. Look in your handbook, it will give you max tow weight for your car. Even so you should not be towing a caravan of that weight. Take kerbweight of car & then take around 85% of that weight & that is about the max loaded weight of caravan you are aiming for.
If your car is 1.6 diesel then towing performance should be adequate at that weight. If it is 1.6 petrol then be prepared to use gears & for poor mpg when towing.
3rd party 307 info here that gives you the info you require for all models. It looks accurate to me but you would need to verify it from manufacturer sources before buying caravan.
