Hi,
We are looking to buy a first caravan no more than £750 which will be kept on my husbands own company grounds (he owns the land), it will be behind locked gates. I have just been onto go compare etc and it keeps coming up with no quotes as unsuitable storage. can you offer me any advice. Really dont want to fork out for storage costs on such a cheap caravan.
I found that the Caravan Club gave me the best quote.
I have a hitch lock and wheel clamp fitted which is usually the minimum security required to be fitted by insurance companies.
Surely I need insurance in case we are involved in an accident while towing. We are only looking to spend up to £700 for the van so not too concerned if it gets stolen or anything. Do you need to join caravan club to get insurance from them. Thanks
Yes you need car insurance not caravan insurance if you have an accidentIits you car insurance you need to tell them you are towing. Manypeople dont Iinsure their vans and for £700 its not worth it.
However your car insurance will NOT cover you when the van is unhitched such as when it is on a site so you could face a huge bill if, for example, your van rolls into another one or is blown over and damages someone elses property which has been known to happen!
Also, if it comes detached from the car whilst towing (again this has been known to happen) your car insurance won't cover any damage the caravan causes.
Thanks for all your replies and whilst my car insurance will cover us, I understand what you are saying Helen, could I just say it is being stored at home as only want the insurance for out on the road and on camp site?
