We always use a dehumidifier in the van at the end of each trip purely to dry out the bedding and pillows.
A couple of days sees everything bone dry and it is then put in vacuum bags and stowed away.

The only other time that we use the dehumidifier, caravan wise, is at the beginning of the season when exterior vents are blocked off and the van is subjected to a week of the dehumidifier just to make sure everything is as dry as it can be.

Whilst others may think this a waste of time, we consider it well worth the effort.

We just make sure all the water is drained properly using a drain down hose and then close the curtains.

The most important thing is to have good air circulation, but your van should already have this with all the vents in the floor etc.

This is why (in my opinion) all moisture traps are a waste of time. Surely logic says that as fast as you remove moisture out the air in the van it is replaced by air coming in through the vents. So you are trying to remove the moisture out the entire planet.

Same as having air conditioning on in your car, but having all the windows open.

As for the original question of blinds up or down. We close the curtains on the main windows, but pull the blinds down on the bunk windows as they don't have curtains. You may loose a bit of tension on the blinds after been left down for very long periods of time, but this only takes a couple of seconds to fix and really isn't a problem.

Is it not a bit bad for your health to have a lot of salt in your bowel?

-------------
XVI yes?

As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Our blinds are always down, they have been down ever since the van was bought new nearly 12 years.

The previous owner kept them down, so we did the same.

The springs on them are fine.
The only time they are up is when we are using the van.

Also, if it has a tracker and you don't use the van during the winter you may find your battery flattens and sets off the tracker (personal experience!!!!)

I must be missing something here. What is 'wintering'?

Our van never rests!

That's the best way to be!

Ours does go away for a couple of months, but I would like to use it all year round.

Would like to go away all year round, but working full time limits our chances. So our last trip away is Ikely to be Mid October until next Easter.

We bought our van to go away all year then OH company decides to send him to warmer climes for 3 months up to Easter. At least we spent Christmas in the van. Fingers crossed for this winter.
