Well.... this will either be a lot of fun or a big mistake! We've never owned a caravan before, so thought we'd dip our toe in the water with a little Freedom van.
It's a 1996 2-berth Jetstream (with loo) in very good condition. It has new carpets and the last owner replaced the roof lining with wax board as well as stuck down the wall linings. It came with an almost new awning and a few other bits, e.g. new breathable cover, hook up cable, chocks, electric heater, gas bottle, etc.
Since buying it last weekend I've only had time to do limited testing of bits and pieces.
Thus far I know the 12v electrics system (from a leisure battery) is fine. The fridge is working off of gas, but we haven't had it on a hook up yet to test the mains side of things. The gas hob and grill work as they should.
In terms of things that aren't working, there's the strip/tube light inside the toilet, the outside light over the door (well it's temperamental... on and off) and it 'appears' both whale water pumps aren't working.
Since I haven't had it on a 240v hook up I'm not sure if the pumps will work on just 12v.... although I think they should.
Perhaps someone with a similar caravan can give me some advice on the above.
For example how do you pull the toilet strip light apart to check/ change the tube? You'd think it would be obvious.... but it's not… well not to me. I pulled/slid the left hand end off... but then a spade connector on a wire came unplugged and I can't see how to easily plug it back in (it’s inside a fiddly hard to get to hole).
Regarding the light over the door I think it's just a loose/corroded contact/switch. So far I haven't spotted how to remove the plastic casing (e.g. pinch and pull?), but I imagine I’ll work it out with a closer inspection.
The two water pumps (for kitchen and toilet sinks) are a mystery. On the Power Management System (PMS) there is a pump isolation switch which I've turned to both ‘on’ and ‘off’… but no dice. I've also checked the ‘water pump’ fuse built into the PMS panel, and it’s fine. Given that there are two pumps on different foot switches, what are the chances of them both being kaput?
Anyway it’s all an adventure waiting to happen!

Pumps work off the 12 volt system, can you test them off the van using a 12 volt battery( in water obviously). It maybe that the impellers are stuck, remove grid at bottom of pump and turn impeller with a small screwdriver and test them. You can also check there is power getting to where the pumps plug in with a meter and somebody operating the switch.

Congrats on the new van. Our first was a Freedom sunseeker and we had 3 kids and a dog.
The water pump probably need plugging in outside and dropping into a container full of water. I doubt if there are two of them.

Hi congratulations on getting your freedom. I have a sunseeker. Ours is a 2013 model, so don't know what the differences are, and we haven't got the bathroom. Our kitchen tap has a micro switch, no foot pump, and a submersable pump which drops into a full water container. The micro switch in the tap turns it on and off.
I'm sure you will have lots of fun as we do! Keep us posted!
