Its ok to sell caravans with over 7mtre body lenth such as the large twin axle German built twin axle 'vans because they are legal to tow on the road with a suitable vehicle which will not be any sort of private car.
All UK built touring caravans including twin axles are legal to tow behind a private car of suitable size.
Its not suprising that there is confusion when gov.uk cannot even get it right on their own website. It states erroneously...'The maximum length is 7 metres for a trailer towed by a vehicle weighing up to 3.5 tonnes (3,500 kilograms). When of course the limit is 7mtres for body not including A frame. This error has existed for months & has not been corrected.

sounds like a load of crap to me,ive paid my money for my car and van and i will bloody tow them where i like when i like.No one will dictate what i can or cant do.
and from what i have been told (a member on here) it seems the legal limit for large lorries in the UK is 60 mph on motor ways.. 50 on dual carriage and 40 mph on single carriage ways..
lorries have governors set at 56 mph which is some EU ruling.. its not really surprising the "your gov" website is a wee bit vague..
messy laws create a whole bunch of criminals.. even if most of them dont know what they are..:)
i know i am but as long as i dont end up in jail i carry on doing what i do and "priority policing" means the police enforce some laws and ignore others..
trog
ps.. my short wheelbase tow truck and two birth van is quite legal but when i hook my somewhat longer boat and trailer on the back the situation gets a bit doubtful as regards overall train length.. :)

I like him.
Why does that video clip of the Renault 5 towing a twin axle spring to mind?
brianconway farmers do not pay road fund licence on any self propelled farm machinery when used on the road and donot have to drain the tank on any tractor when towing a trailer to the farmers market loaded with produce. as decreed by John Prescott MPTransport minister in last Labour goverment
They are not permitted to use the subsidised fuel in their private 4x4,s, pickup,s, vans or lorries or even their wifes car. thats when they get dipped and charged twice the duty avoided + fine + costs when charged by Customs & Exercise officers .
The year before last locally on a couple of farms two gangs were buying the red diesel removing the dye a flogging on at price cheaper than garage price. When caught all involved got hefty custodial sentenances IE 6 to 12 years .
