Hi phil I have a problem my caravan insurance has been voided back to April 2012 and I was to receive premiums paid since then as they state my caravans not been insured. Am I entitled to a complete refund as they have only offered me 415.80 and I was paying 41.58 a month .its been voided due to storage not having a 24hour locking system.

have you had a claim in the period? have they told you what the breakdown of the refund is?
usually there will be a pro rata calc in some form or another as they have still had you on risk for the period.
the ombudsman, in my experience, will calc a refund of premiums, but will take into account what the correct policy premium would be during the term.
I am no expert on the legal sie, but i think there is a link to the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regs.

When you pay monthly for insurance you are actually buying 1 years insurance on credit so your insurer will argue that the interest portion of those monthly payments is not refundable. Its also possible that while the theft part of the insurance was void due to lack of storage security caravan was still insured for fire, 3rd party & accident damage while towing so the refund is just for your lack of theft cover.

Thanks for your replies got it sorted I'm due 1218.40 back 30 less than I'd calculated but it's better than what was stated . Thanks once again. I did make a claim for wind blowin my mini heki rooflight off this is when they said they wouldn't have insured me had they known it was not key locked 24 hours a day . My previous van was with them .thank god my van was not written off or I'd have been left with nothing.
To cut a long story short they've done me a favour bought and had fitted rooflight and got new for old insurance with caravan club 100 pound a year cheaper , so am happy

We use CC insurance and found them to be excellent. No hassle like many other insurance companies.

Sorry Lyn just picked this one up but I see you have got it sorted. A lesson for everyone - check your policy and make sure that you comply with the terms. If you can't then let the insurers know and they will adjust the policy/premium all being well
