We have just bought an Isabella Ambassador awning second hand which was supplied with 2 sets of poles.
Carbon fibre and steel.
Can anyone tell me the pros and cons for using either set?
We have only used steels up until now.
Thanks for any advice
Steel is much heavier than carbon fibre, and can corrode although awning poles are normally plated.
Carbon fibre is very stiff and light (they make airrcraft from it). More expensive.
Some awnings come with fibre glass poles for light weight. Cheaper than carbon. I have not seen carbon ones.
Our awning has alumium so lghter than steel.

Thanks Dave ..
I probably have a set of fibre glass and a set of aluminium poles then .
The description is just from the ad as we have not had a chance to put it up yet.
Would you use the aluminium poles if you were using a seasonal pitch where you left the awning up and the fibre glass for short stays?
Our old awning is a Dorema and although the poles have corroded a bit and are heavy they stand up really well to harsh weather.
We always had steel when we were on a seasonal pitch and still had two awnings collapse. During high winds the owner of the site could always be seen running around trying to lash awnings down and prevent them taking off.
Our awning has withstood some high winds and heavy rain although it is not on a seasonal pitch. The fiberglass poles would be good for touring as they are lighter, your choice really, as both are pretty strong!
