Car of the year always makes me smile.
to decide on car of the year you would have to test every model on the market.
Remember its the caravan clubs car of the year, chosen from a few models that the manufacturers supply for testing
The Caravan Club will only allow cars to be entered that are "new models for the year " any vehicle that a manufacturer puts forward is tested, the CC make no selections.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Tow car of the year Seat Leon
Max towing limit 1200kgs
Is it me but how can that be tow car of the year it can only tow at most 5% of all the caravans manufactured.
Who make this decision the car manufacturers.
I agree.
Surely a tow car of the year should be good at towing an average weight caravan.
Doing this you are eliminating many cars that are used as towcars. Most people buy a car that does their ordinary everyday job economically, then some choose to buy a caravan and they want their ordinary car to be able to do the job. When I read that only 5% of caravans out their can be towed by this car I laugh. The vast majority of 90's caravans can be towed by this car and there are thousands upon thousands of those vans still on the road.
CC criteria for choice is that it must be good at doing what it is capable of doing and be economical doing it, which to me seems a very good way of doing it. If someone wants a tractor that costs megabucks then they test those as well and print reports on them the information is there for anyone to see.

What did you expect its always VAG group and bailey for the caravans probably the cc largest sponsors, i'm still trying to spot a jetta on the road let alone on a site, and they won the other year.

I doubt if many folks go out and buy a caravan and then look for a car suitable to tow it.
i did. went to last years scottish caravan show looking to change my swift charisma, didn't see anything we fanced, then went to look at the adria dealer near dundee, looked at 1 caravan that my skoda could tow, didn't like it,looked at the adora isonzo that was next to it, went in and decided there and then to buy it,as the skoda was too light had to change tow car as well to the toyota landcruiser
Who said the Landcruiser was new DS could have paid less for it than your Dacia.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
paid £12000 for a 58 plate land cruiser . i hope you don't need a bumper for your dacia. my friends 2 week old car got bumped and car off the road for 4 months waiting for a bumper. ps the land cruiser will go where the dacia won't , off road pps the dacia can't tow 1800kgs
Hi Steve, First off, at the moment I tow my caravan about 14 days a year. That leaves 351 days a year that I am not towing a caravan, but that I want a good return in MPG. The Duster gives me that.
Secondly, I really do not need a car that will take me off road or tow a caravan "off road".
But really, the bottom line is that as I am always going to be driving solo far more often than I will be towing, I bought the car first and only then looked for and then bought a suitable caravan for the car.
The idea that I should buy the van and only then look for a suitable car simply does not come into my way of thinking.
my land cruiser is only used for towing caravan, sits in garage rest of the time, i use a van every day,my requirements for a caravan was floor space for 3 possibly 5 collies hence the reason to buy caravan first then the jeep, which will be handy at dog shows in muddy fields
Caravanners have only themselves to blame for the oversized units requiring 'tractors' to pull them. If folk didnt insist on having everything in the van that they currently have in their house, they wouldnt need to be so big and heavy.
Fixed beds....microwaves...halogen cookers...cocktail bars!? You're having a laugh!
