Hi all.
Today we have just said goodbye to our pennine pathfinder and are eagerly looking for a 2nd hand caravan.
Hopefully a 2006 model and with all the extras.
Need a motor mover as we live on a hill and will struggle without one.

Looking for a lightweight van with fixed bunks at the back...
I like the looks of the bailey ranger 550/6 but wife not that impressed.

Any other suggestions and ideas ?

Looking at a budget of £6000 for the right van do you think this is about right ?
Thanks in advance

If you are new to caravanning I would recommend getting a professional to check over any caravan you are seriously thinking of buying.
Damp tends to be the main issue, even new vans can have damp issues as several threads have shown on this site and its not restricted to any one manufacturer, although some appear to be worse than others.
.
Dealer or private I would get a check done.
Its money well spent before parting with your hard earned cash.

Whatever you buy, its a MUST that you get a demo of everything working. If a seller tells you that they cannot show you something working, either walk away, or, if they insist everything does work but cant demo it, ask to with-hold part of the money till you get home and try it.

Once you get home having parted with cash, its hard to get any redress out of a private seller if something doesnt work. Dealers should always demo prior to you taking ownership.

Our last caravan was a bailey ranger 550/6. We loved it.
It was really bright and felt roomy at the front, but quite dark at the back( few windows which I think is good as they get condensation, and being a bit darker, the kids slept better) it was light too so towed really well.
The only real issue that we had was the front end panel had a crack at the top rail which runs along the join with the roof. This started to let water in and left a slightly spongy patch which coukd be felt from inside the front top lockers. I understand a lot were like this, so maybe something to look out for.
Other than that, we loved it and in many ways was our best van.
There is a pageant version which is essentially the same but with a few extras.
Good luck

Importantly make sure your towing vehicle is heavy enough and has sufficient BHP to tow any potential caravan you may buy .
