Im thinking of getting a damp meter.I dont really want the prong type but the price really jumps from them to the non invasive. So im looking at the protimeter aquant model, around £270.Is this ok for checking damp or is it over the top for what i want,if so what is the best one to have at a realistic price
Gosh - we got one from Aldi a couple of weeks ago for around £13.00 it seems to do the job to be honest I guess it depends what you want to do with it - but for a check in between services it seems adequate

its hard to do real test without being invasive using a meter..
i think they are over rated myself.. damp can be detected without one.. i do own one but have never felt the need to go round poking holes in panels just to find out what i already know..
I would say a lot OTT, but I guess some will disagree.
I too bought a cheap damp meter and it served it's purpose, in my eyes all you are looking for are readings above the base readings you have.
Then you can put the money you would have spent on the expensive meter towards getting the damp problem rectified.
Sounds fine - if you are going into business as a caravan dealer!
I got one for around a tenner from B & Q many years ago and I use it every few weeks over the winter to check mine and also when buying second hand.
It works perfectly. When it ticks slowly it is probably because of condensation. When it ticks fast it's worth investigating but not serious, if it screams, there's a problem or if buying - walk away.
Not sophisticated but does its job. It has non invasive "probes" - like stubby knitting needle points you place against a panel without marking or damaging it.
Don't go crazy with your purchase and try out your purchase before you leave the shop on various surfaces to get a feel for usefulness.
Have a look at a company called digital meters based in the uk we bought a CEM DT-128 a non invasive meter at £49 works well enough to see if you have a problem..
Just looked that up and it looks like a good product. I can't see why it would be any less accurate than an expensive protimeter. It works on the same principle, surely a damp meter of this type either works or it doesn't.
