hi,i have recently got a caravan,we have not needed the heater till now,but i am not sure of the working of it,it is a Optimus Mini,has no flue or anything coming out of it,so can you tell me,is it one of the flameless heaters that give off no odour?as when i tried to light it there was no flame,and the backing never changed colour.it seemed to get warm for a small time,but not much,
so i really would like to know how this version works if anybody knows,thanks

Hi, sounds like you have an early catalytic type of caravan heater, although some are still available to buy but not approved for use in new caravans. THEY MUST ONLY BE USED IN WELL VENTILATED SPACES. The ones we used in the past had a type of fibre matting held behind a wire frame, were lit by pushing in control knob and lighting with a match or ignitor button then holding knob in for a few seconds and the matting would glow a dull red. w

hi,no it is like this.331268743833,ebay number.it sounds like the one albee is describing.If so,it sounds like it shouldn't be in a caravan,as there is nowhere for fumes to escape,but it doesn.t glow at all,thanks for replies

i have a couple of such heaters.. mine are portable propane workshop heaters.. the combustion is such that no noticeable fumes are produced..
thats the theory anyway.. i wont comment on their suitable use for caravans but they are in common use elsewhere..
the OP one does not seem to be working they do get noticeably hot and produce plenty of heat..
