Hi, has anyone out there had any dealings with Canterbury Caravans?
We are looking to upgrade our first cheap and cheerful caravan to something better.
After checking their website for their opening hours we made a special 50 mile round trip to look at a caravan that we liked. The opening hours were stated as ''now open sundays 10am-3pm''. When we got there on the sunday they were closed with a sign in the door stating they are closed sundays in the winter.
I have since submitted an enquiry via their website concerning the caravan and pointed out the inconvenience caused.
I have heard nothing in return.
What concerns me is if we are to buy a caravan there the level of customer service we may receive.
I hope I am wrong, as we really like this caravan.
Thanks if you can share any experiences you have had with this company
Sorry you had a wasted journey, guess he had omitted to update the website. I don't think you'll find him much different from many other dealers.
Bought my last van there and think I paid a bit over the odds for it but it was what the oh wanted so we did the biz. However, the trade in was quite an experience. I was trading in a series 7 Senator and came the day he tried to cut down the agreed px price. Was only when I hooked back up to the Senator to take it away again did he change his tune as he realised he was in danger of losing a very lucrative sale.
In my opinion he is a very shrewd business man that knows all the tricks so be on your guard. He tries to be very charming but it doesn't quite work for me and it seems smarmy. I don't think he would deliberately sell you a lemon but will try to squeeze as much cash out of you as he can. Having said that, he did chuck in a full gas bottle with the deal.
Any van you buy will be fully serviced in their own workshop, and you will find the fitter will do the hand over and go thro' everything with you. No probs with the fitter, Ashley, he learnt his trade with Trevor Powell of Premier Caravans and so has my complete confidence.
Hope this is of some help to you and just because I'm not keen on the guy, don't think he would sell you anything not quite right. If you were to give him a ring during the week I'm willing to bet he would be willing to meet you by appointment on a Sunday. The possibility of a sale would drag him there I'm sure...........Mick

hi ive only had a service there and that was brill i only live down the road in herne so its just right why dont you try south east caravans fellow name dave hes good and give you a good deal tell him tom sent you he will know cheers .tom
We had our old caravan serviced there - the workshop guys are brilliant - really patient, very attentive and happy to talk you through everything.
We liked the service dept there so much that we did not hesitate to purchase our new (to us) van there recently. They could not have been more helpful, and we got a good deal on the Eldiss Avante we p/ex'd.
The 'owner' MickyB refers to has retired, a lot of the day to day running, and specifically updating the website is taken care of by the daughter, Tracey who is very helpful. I think she is away at the moment (my sister has been looking at vans there).
Give them a call - the stock turns over quickly but you can usually reserve any van you are interested in (I did).
Thanks for all the replies, and sorry for not acknowledging them sooner have been busy caravan hunting.
I did ring them later the following Saturday as they had not replied to my email. They had just sold the caravan we were interested in. That just added salt to the wound. All I would say is I find their opening hours limited, other dealers we went to are open on Sunday and later on a Saturday. Isn't that when most of us are free to spend our money after working all week to earn it.
Anyway have bought a caravan elsewhere but now desperate to find storage. I will put a separate post on but do any of you know where there is available storage in the Ashford/Maidstone area?
Thanks
