ok i know its a bad time of year to be selling a caravan, but i've been offered something that i just cant turn down,

we currently have a 2008 6 berth coachman with fixed bunks which we've owned from new, but have the opportunity to buy a swift challenger 4 berth with Fixed bed from a family friend.

So apart from here were would you advertise and has anyone had any luck at this time of year ??

I am always telling people that between now and Christmas is the best time to buy. As someone said to me when I was looking for a caravan, "always buy in Autumn or Winter, but always sell in Spring or Summer."

We bought our (old) caravan on ebay last November, and we were spoilt for choice. Things may be very different with much newer vans though. Good Luck with your sale.

Best Regards,
Colin

autotrader is a waste of time and money.Ebay is the best bet.You get 12 colour pics and no time wasters. They bid,buy and collect.Autotrader is expensive and you get one crappy black and white pic.And limited to so many words. Also try gumtree and preloved

The only sensible way to use Ebay is via the classified ad system. We paid £15 a couple of years ago, which was the total upfront cost (and included the pictures)

If you auction it, or list it as a 'Buy It Now' you will get clobbered for at least 10% selling fees! - plus you run the risk of people moaning to Ebay and getting a full or partial refund.

With classified system the deal is strictly between you and the buyer - no feedback, no disputes - you just list it, they turn up and buy it, and that's the end of it.

It's such a good deal that I'm surprised that Ebay still offer the facility - all they get is the surprisingly reasonable advertisment fee with no rake off the sale price.

Did someone say you don't get time wasters on Ebay?? They must be living in a parallel universe. The ebay I use is awash with them.

That said, I have always in recent history sold cars & caravans on ebay auctions simply to attract interest & viewings. Then I am on my own.

Ebay is the new wild west so take care.

When all said & done the best place is where your buyer is looking. Best time to sell it is when your buyer is looking. We sold our last caravan this time of the year within 2 weeks.

My best advice is use ebay to attract viewers and as many other free sites as you can find.

Ah, funny you should mention the club ads.

We bought our current van from a private advertisement on 'Caravan Finder'.   When we went to see it the seller told us that he'd advertised it on the Caravan Club website - yet, somehow, it had made its way onto 'Caravan Finder'

There is obviously some sort of process that transfers CC ads to other sales sites. Our seller wasn't even aware that his ad had gone viral, so to speak

Yes i should have worded that better, there are timewasters on ebay but at least you dont constantly get people not turning up or looking round for hours and never seen again etc.If its on the bay you can always strike a deal if someone does come to look and they like it.Then when sold, remove the add.

We sold ours within 2 weeks in June on preloved or gumtree (can't remember which as I had good response from both).

Mixed feelings with eBay here, had nothing but trouble seeking my mums (a gobur pop up), but mine was plain sailing. I wasn't expecting the admin that came with it though, had so many enquiries it was a part time job keeping up. But then that's what you want. Oh and don't get your arm twisted into using PayPal ever, cash only!
