BEWARE OF CONMEN.bought used caravan fom this dealer.it was cheap but I was assured everything worked & had been tested.when home I put water on & flooded the caravan.there was a pipe off behind the washroom sink unit.the cascade water heater didn't work. the brakes were sticking on.contacted dealer with no success at all despite about 10 phone calls.i didn't expect a mint caravan for the price but I didn't expect a load of lies.
i have sorted most of the problems now but am still very annoyed.hope this may help someone else avoid this dealer.

Hi
Sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience from a dealer.
This is why we bought from a private seller.
Most of the dealers we looked at were overpriced and no extras.
If you buy private you take a chance but at least your not paying top money and we managed to get loads of extras.
So far our van is as described and was owned by previous owner for 7 years.
Glad you have sorted the faults and happy caravaning.

Unfortunate but par for the course really, most dealers of cheap caravans sell them on without even checking them. As pointed out, for an older caravan you save money buying private. Generally any old caravan will need some diy fixing inside & its best to service running gear before towing any mileage. Tyres could be old & should be changed if over 5-6yrs old regardless of wear or risk failure at motorway speeds if perished.

Unfortunately I hadn't seen this before purchasing a caravan from these guys.
We put down a deposit for a van that wen inspecting again the second time after feeling pressured to put down the money before checking it over again. We found out that the tow hitched had changed, there was dry rot at the front of the van. Wen we asked for our money bk literally 10 mins after giving him (in his words) his wages he said no il repair. Wen we collected the van all he had done was stuck patched wood over the top. Wen we got the van home I removed the curtains and found damp which we were told the van had had a full service and damp check! My finger went through the wall and was reading 39 on the damp meter. The front wall crumbled and wen we called the owner he said bring it bk in the same state he sold it. Knowing full well it's not cos the front end had fallen down. We are now seeking legal advise which seems in our favour but please please if thinking of buying from them get everything photod wen visiting and everything in writing, take a damp meter with u and check for ur self. These vans are not serviced but checked and no test for damp is done by meter but by eye lol so please be very careful. We are now trying to put right which is very expensive and very disheartening. It was our holiday as my husbands disabled and can't fly, this is now not going to be a holiday for a few years because all our money is going on fixing the water ingress 😢

You are covered under the Sale of Goods Act and also the Misrepresentation Act. Start by writing a polite but firm letter to the dealer outlining the faults. Don't waffle or threaten in the letter and keep to bullet points.
In the letter state that you want a reply within 14 days otherwise you will be obligated to escalate the issue. Don't mention your proposed cou.rse of action at this time. Send by registered mail. Do NOT email!
If they fail to reply within 14 days, you can send a "Letter before Action", but only if you propose to go all the way to small claims court which should not cost you anything as charges can be recouped from the dealer if you have a solid case. Come back on here at that point for more help.
In the meantime take as many photos of the caravan as you can just in case you find the need to escalate the matter.

As he got the year wrong I would think you have got him on misrepresentation but goods from trader must be fit for purpose so if he remains in business you should get a refund.

They tried to offer us the same van for a grand if we bought there and then. Every one of their vans are not fit for purpose, they are all filthy with mould on windows, spongy floors, stink of damp, broken taps.. The list goes on. I think the sellers up the road in Bordon are part of the same outfit so beware, as the pictures of the Bordon based company have been taken at the liss premises. Very pushy people to deal with

we went to them a couple of weeks ago, thought it was safer and more covered if we bought off of a 'dealer'.We were shown this caravan, that was dirty inside as it had just come in and not been cleaned yet.We were happy with the caravan but the roof vents screen frames were broken, which we were told would be replaced, the caravan would be totally serviced and cleaned when we picked it up.We had to put £600 deposit down which is a bit steep on a purchase of £2600,usually 10%. We travelled over an hour to collect it,and was surprised it was just as messy, but reassured that it had had a full service, electric and gas check,so nothing to worry about. We got it home and discovered that we had no electric running through from 12v,so no light, pump etc, caravan was filthy, fridge mouldy and smelly, toilet waste not emptied, gas hadn't been checked as there was no regulator on it,the battery that he kindly supplied was beyond dead (we had to get a new one),charging wires wasn't connected to the battery clips and the 'new' vent covers were the old ones just stuck up with sticky pads so damaging the vent covers to be able to open vents. When we phoned him to ask what the engineer did on his inspection,we were told 'I don't know,im not an engineer', we informed him that we had no power, and he just didn't care. We asked him how the gas was checked with no regulator on,he said he probably used his own!!! We are seeking legal advice as its clearly been sold as serviced when it hasn't!

Wish id seen these posts earlier. Bought a "dry van". Was told it was 1997 model it was 1994. Bunk came off on the way home due to rotted wood. Had nightmares since of what would have happened if my kids had been sleeping in it. Inspection later revealed off the scale damp. Front end, side of van and ceiling. But my real bug bear was the £200 spent on a starter pack including a rusty step no elec hook up, stinky/dirty awning and a battery that was swapped after my husband checked over the electrics. Not valeted as promised was told "it all be so clean you wont recognise it" Not cleaned at all and littlun found broken glass. To top it all no response to phone calls emails etc. Can I say though trading standards has been fantastic willing to take on case if company not responsive. No such thing as sold as seen etc. Maybe I'll be able to sleep again soon.

I'm really sorry to hear that another person has been effected. 😔 It's really sad that people are sold something that they start off excited about and then have no trust in at all. I'm thinking of now selling my caravan and buying another. Do not give up, and keep fighting. I know that this post is monitored so you may get a response from them on here. Keep everything and fight through court if needs be. Good luck. Keep us updated. Xx
