hi guys,
in march we will be taking our tourer to a site for the season and erecting an awning. the pitch is a hard standing of gravel. what would you use as a floor base for the awning? i've never been on a hard standing before so totally in the dark. normally just use a breathable groundsheet

i havnt got seasonal pitch but have seen a few that use big foam square ones what aldi had early this year you get them from ebay and acc shops

We've used the large foam floor tiles (the ones that interlock together like a jigsaw). They are great, and very comfortable even when barefoot and very light weight. I definitely recommend them.

We were on a hard standing seasonal for 5 years and had a floor of tarpaulin, and then treated strand board. A neighbour had loft boards on top of a tarpaulin. Both very good to walk on and also more insulation. Very easy to pick up at the end of the season, stack and cover with the tarpaulin. We slept in the awning and it was great.

I have used tarpaulins from BQ And other suppliers layed on top of the pea pebbles then a Dorema awning carpet on top with a coconut bristle in doorway for wiping feet.

 plus old oreck  upright cleaner from home to clean awning carpet. see dorema website carpet about half price.

 My OH supplies any old scatter rugs or runners from home all washable at end of season plus mat in front of steps worded one lovely person and one old grouch. no prizes as who is called the grouch.

As above, you can't go wrong with plastic sheeting onto gravel, then interlocking loft boards with cheap carpet on top or carpet tiles, we have done this 3 year's running and it's great, and you don't get all the mildew problems as the floor is sealed.

Forgot to mention that we used a cheapish rubber backed semi industrial carpet on top of the strand board and for the winter it stored easily in the Keter box. Never had any problem with mildew or condensation.

We use an old groundsheet then the foam flooring interlocking squares with another groundsheet on top, few rugs etc for comfort, this works well for an 8 month stint as campsite helpers.

On our seasonal pitch we put an old ground sheet down . Then I ordered a roll of foam carpet underlay.I got on ebay fot £20 inc delivery. One roll covered the area. My awning iis a 925 . Then we put a new awning carpet down and a few mats. Much cheaper than those tiles. Its warm and we cant feel the gravel in bare feet. We have just rolled it up and it will do next year. Forgot to mention. I taped the joints with gaffer tape.
