Hi all we have an issue with our lights where they are very dim . The issue started with the trip on the lights charger water heater going . We were unable to reset the trip until the fuse from the water heater switch was taken out . The volt meter is also on zero

Any ideas we are currently sitting in the dark on holiday

Many thanks

Are you on EHU ? If so have you checked the trip on the outside post ? Volt meter on zero on my van means dead battery.

This happened to our neighbour this summer, it was a problem with the EHU, it was fixed within an hour by the site, might be worth a mention to them. Hope you get sorted.

The lights will be the last thing to go if your battery is running out of power.

Can you plug something into your mains socket to see if you are getting any mains power?

If you are, then your charger is not charging your battery and your PSU is not converting any mains power to 12v.

However it sounds to me that you are not getting any mains power, despite you resetting it. Speak to the Warden and get him to check the EHU.

If you have a meter, switch off everything (including EHU) and check the meter on the battery terminals.
Then switch on the mains and check the battery terminals again. There should be a significant rise in the voltage going into the battery.
If there is no difference then the PSU is kaput,

I don't know the age of your van but we had to buy a new PSU for our 1997 Bailey, this year.

Modern PSU's have a Smart Charger built in so they are a lot better than the originals that were fitted to older Baileys.

If the volt meter is at zero, this would suggest the 12v circuit either isn't on or a seperate 12v fuse blown from the battery (I suspect the latter). Even with a low battery, the meter would show some output, but if this were the case, I'm puzzled you have any light output at all.

What about other 12v items - eg water pump, is that running?

I had same problem with our recently aquired Cornishe. I was plugged in, using the 12v and mains lights, but watching the meter slowly drop...

I checked and it was as simple as replacing a 10amp (red) fuse in the mains/charger unit.

Couldn't get the water heater to work, again it was it's internal resetable fuse on the end.

Just last week, the lights wouldn't come on, I had accidentally switched off the 12v main when I was checking fuses (for 12v fridge, turns out a dirty switch wouldn't allow it to ignite the gas).

I would agree that the 12v system is at fault in the OP's van.

12v side def. not working then. Take off the leisure battery and charge separately at home, if you leave it flat it won't charge next year and you will have to buy another one.

Thanks for your replies unfortunately the van is away now for winter

Looks like I will need to invest in a new battery for next season .Hopefully it's simply a fuse causing the issue

Will update you all next March
