Hi, we have the chance to put our new van into indoor storage. Its nearby and reasonably priced. However its an old factory mill building that is next door to a factory that makes paving slabs. The dust from this is blown into the mill and covers the vans.
My dilemmas are
1. will it harm the van
2. will it get inside the van
3. will this be any worse than leaving it outside against all the winter elements?
(There are washing facilities attached so we can swill off the dust)
any thought please.
Thanks

If its cement dust then it does have potential to scratch & dull paint unless washed off carefully using plenty of water. Provided nothing is left open it shouldn't get inside but overall it dosen't sound a very good place to store a caravan. I would say it would be better stored outside somewhere different than store it where it will get covered in cement dust.

Doesn't cement contain lime? When I had a small caravan I kept it in a barn on a farm. On occasions the barn was filled with grain and the dust and smell from that sometimes got inside the van, via vents I suppose. Some of the grain, especially linseed, had a lovely smell but I certainly wouldn't want concrete dust anywhere near my van.

Yes, if you use a proper caravan cover then you should be ok but that seems to defeat the object of indoor storage. Tbh I would not store caravan here, you could use outdoor storage & use a cover.

I use to store my caravan in a massive old greenhouse. Think it use to be a mushroom farm.
It was extremely draughty and dust use to really blow about.
The van would get dirtier in there, undercover, than outside in the elements.
I store mine in storage that is outside now. I clean the roof each time I take it back in the summer. In the winter I use a cover.
The van is just as clean when it comes out after the winter as it is when I pack it up.
I clean the van less now its stored outside.

Sugget 1976 you dont grow mushrooms in green houses. they are grow in very well insulated sheds or similar in total pitch darkness the only time they see artifical light is when the grower turns on the light to pick them.
wild mushrooms are best picked at day break as the uv light has not had chance to effect them. if you go out when still dark with torch and look for them and just as it starts lighten you will pick the best wild mushrooms you have ever tasted. the growers change the soil in their beds every so often usual every few weeks and will gladly give you as much as you like for growing you tub plants which will give you great results might even still get a few mushrooms

My last job was just up the road from a concrete place and the dust used to eat away the paint work on our cars and the windscreens over the years so I would stay well away from an cement works of any kind if I were you, one car got so bad I had to replace the windscreen as I couldn't see through it if the sun was shining directly on it.

I know...we back there now, been there since march. On the back row near house. Thought we'd done well finding this indoor one but you could eat the dust as you walked in.
Thought you'd gone as there's a huge pile of gravel where I thought your van was.
Would you give it a go after the comments above?.
There are some very expensive motorhomes there.
