I have purchased a small teardrop caravan. What insurance do I need?. When not in use the teardrop is stored in my garage. In transit the teardrop is covered by my vehicle insurance. On site I use the normal security measures, wheel clamp and hitchlock etc. Any thoughts anyone?.
You car insurance only covers third party liability, not any damage to your caravan. Example, your caravan damages other property while been towed, car insurance covers other party's damage but not any damage to your caravan, so you need caravan insurance to cover that.
As stated, no legal requirement for separate caravan insurance in UK so if teardrop is only worth a few £100s then probably not worth it but most owners of old caravans worth not a lot who do insure usually pay around £70/pa. Its possible with a home built teadrop insurance would be difficult/impossible to obtain anyway or might involve getting an engineer's report.
